As fall sports come to a close, the anticipation for the upcoming Arcadia High School (AHS) basketball season grows. At the center of it all is senior Jordan Dollar, the star shooting guard of the AHS Varsity Boys Basketball team.

Dollar has played recreational basketball since the age of eight, joining Amateur Athletic Union (AAU) four years after. The past summer has been a turning point for Dollar, reaching new heights with his work ethic, skill, dedication, and knowledge.

“During the summer, we were working out six days a week, with morning practices starting at 6:30 a.m.,” Dollar recalled.

Dollar attended the 2023 CALI-LIVE Summer Showcase in July. During the tournament, Dollar had an impressive average of 23 points per game.

“CALI-LIVE was a very notable event for me. I think we really played like a team, and it contributed a lot to each player’s individual success as well,” Dollar explained.

With the winter approaching, Dollar described the plans for the upcoming season. The AHS Varsity Boys Basketball team is Division 2A, and the team plans to win the League Championship and make a deep run into CIF.

There is no doubt that basketball is a huge part of Dollar’s life, with countless hours dedicated to the sport. But Dollar’s hard work is not going unnoticed: he has received interest from multiple colleges, and aspires to continue to play basketball throughout college, whether in Division 1, Division 2, or NAIA schools.

When asked about who he looks up to, Dollar said, “I never particularly idolized any NBA player. My dad has always been my biggest inspiration. His mentality is unmatched and my motivation comes from him.”

Sophomore starting point guard Noa Eteuati-Edwards has spent the past two years playing with Dollar.

Edwards describes Dollar as “one of the most driven people on the team.” “He puts in his all at every practice, game, and workout and it shows.”

Dollar continues to prove his diligence, practicing on a daily basis and striving to improve in different areas.

He addresses his weaknesses in basketball by “putting in extra time during workouts to practice them.”

With an extremely lively and busy schedule committed to basketball, one may wonder how Dollar has time for anything else. However, he is adept at balancing his school, sport, and social life. He goes out with his friends, and spends quality time with his family.

Dollar has shown a remarkable amount of dedication throughout his years of basketball. With high goals in mind, there is no doubt that he will reach and surpass what is expected of him. We wish the best of luck to Dollar and the Boys Varsity Basketball team, and we are looking forward to watching their games in the months to come!
