Some TV shows gain massive popularity in pop culture through their stories and plot twists. However, others become cemented into everyday life and are able to influence how people see fashion. Whenever the audience connects with beloved characters, they are often led to adopt their looks in methods like iconic makeup or accessories, demonstrating just how far television extends its impact into aspects of both media and fashion.
“I see fashion as a way to express myself, so the outfits I see in TV shows often give me ideas about what I might want to try out,” said freshman Molly Lu.

Euphoria, for example, has one of the most instantly recognizable outfits and styles. After the show’s rise to fame, social media feeds have been filled with fans recreating the confidence behind the bold, glittery makeup and expressive clothing in the show.
Another instance would be Wednesday. Wednesday Addams’ monochrome wardrobe that completely revolves around the color black has sparked a revival in a more gothic fashion. Viewers, drawn to the character’s individuality and dark humor, have reflected their adoration for the show in moodier aesthetics.
Period-inspired shows have also contributed to certain fashion trends. Bridgerton, famous for its drama and extravagant clothing, has reintroduced styles like corsets, softer pastel tones, and the Regency-era debutante dresses, proving how historical fashion is circling back into modern fashion nowadays, as well.
“All the accessories and makeup I’ve seen on the show influence the way I dress and present myself,” said freshman Abigale Shia.
“Cultural clash” TV shows like Emily in Paris are able to appear in fashion trends, too. Emily’s brighter colors and patterns, as well as the natural French makeup worn by other characters, have been quickly embraced by viewers, too.
“I think the media and other things that people see online also have a big impact on people and serve as a tool of inspiration,” said Shia.
In all, these fashion trends that stem from TV shows are able to garner much attention. Once the audience relates to a character and sees parts of themself in them, they usually try to show this by adopting the character’s appearance, as well. These fictional wardrobes aren’t just about clothing for shows; they can become real-world trends and a way for viewers to express their identities.
