In the Arcadia Unified School District (AUSD), there are many ongoing projects at different campuses. The funding for the construction work for these schools came from Measure AS, a $358 million bond measure approved by Arcadia voters. It has allowed schools within AUSD to build new facilities, improve safety, and modernize campuses.
Since late 2025, construction teams have been working hard on various projects. At AHS, they have been building and finishing up the locker rooms, team rooms, and the ASB office.
The locker and team rooms are currently undergoing both exterior and interior work, with ongoing paint jobs outside and tile work and polishing on the inside. Students and coaches are currently using temporary portables, and will move to the new, improved locker rooms as soon as the construction finishes.
“We are also able to modernize them; for example, we are adding team rooms to the locker room spaces, which are dedicated spaces for different sports,” said Assistant Principal Ms. Shannon Will.
These new upgrades will help create more functional and improved spaces for student athletes.
“As an athlete, I’m excited for the new team rooms! Being given a dedicated space would be very beneficial to us,” said freshman Ella Xiong.
The ASB office has also undergone renovations, making significant progress. Once completed, the facility is expected to better accommodate ASB members and offer a more efficient working environment.
“Renovating the spaces that are almost complete (locker rooms, ASB) was much needed as those buildings hadn’t been touched in nearly 60 years. The buildings were showing their age,” said Ms. Will.
Meanwhile, Measure AS has also helped to fund solar projects for Arcadia facilities, including First Avenue Middle School (FAMS), Baldwin Stocker Elementary School (BSES), Longley Way Elementary School (LWES), and Jim Leahy Maintenance Yard. Solar panels are being installed to lower electricity bills and provide clean energy to facilities. AHS will also be receiving solar panels located in the staff parking lot and rally court. The installation of these new solar panels is estimated to be completed during the summer of 2026.
Measure AS will also help fund future, upcoming projects at AHS. A new Performing Arts Center (PAC) Annex will be constructed, and a new H-Building will be built along the south side of the school. The new PAC Annex will be designed for the expansion of AHS’ stagecraft program. H-Building will be a permanent two-story building to replace the portable classrooms in the current H-Row. These provisions will provide more indoor, usable space.
Other upcoming projects for AHS include renovations on the weight and team rooms and the baseball and softball fields. Refurbishing these facilities will not only keep the campus modernized, but also ensure the safety of students, staff, and athletes.
