The Pumpkin Palooza was an event hosted for freshmen to connect and engage in fun activities set up by the Link Crew leaders. Held on Nov. 4, Link Crew began the festivities after school in the Rally Court. Posters set up around campus displayed the entertaining activities that took place. After freshmen checked in with Link Crew leaders using their ID’s, they were free to enjoy the event.
Next to the grassy area near the S-Building, there was Spikeball and Pickleball. The Link Crew leaders offered the option to do a one vs. one challenge for pickleball. Link Crew leaders played against students in Cup Pong and in Giant Connect 4. Next to the cider stand, a bean bag toss was erected as well, set apart about 10 feet.
Pumpkin painting, the main draw of the event, was at the lunch tables nearest to the S-Building and had many options for paint colors. Students added their own unique designs to the small, plastic pumpkins.
On the same lunch tables farther away, board games like Monopoly and Twister were set up as well.
Across from that, on the raised platform in front of the North Gym, two small awnings were set up with tables: one for bedazzling hair with gems and the other for painting hearts on the skin. The stencils came in different sizes and designs, but all with the general shape of a heart. They offered glitters and red paint for the hearts to be stenciled onto the skin.
Link Crew leader junior Carolina Santo explained that they “have a huge stock of glitters and paints and supplies that the school has built up over the years and [they] use them” to organize these certain recreations.
“I got two glitter tattoos, both in hearts; I love the color options for the glitter,” said freshman Sophia Stanford.
Once the freshmen students checked in at the tables for attending, they were offered cold, refreshing apple cider. The Link Crew leaders also offered seconds to anyone who wanted them.
“My favorite part? I love the apple cider, especially with the ice cubes,” said freshman Mackenzie French.
Although the day got dark quickly, signaling the transition of summer to fall, students enjoyed the warm festivities and fun games after school at the Pumpkin Palooza.
