Get ready to embark on a heartwarming journey as the Arcadia Advanced Theatre and Stagecraft presents: A Christmas Carol. This adaptation of a classic holiday favorite will come alive on Nov. 13, 14, and 15 at 7 pm. To purchase a ticket, visit the Arcadia Stage Website or ask students currently working on the play. Based on Charles Dickens’ novel published in 1843, A Christmas Carol follows Ebenezer Scrooge, a wealthy and selfish businessman with a disdain for holidays. On a particular Christmas Eve, he is visited by three spirits who take him through his past, present, and future. In an unforgettable journey, Scrooge reflects on his life. Through festivity, music, and dancing, this production will bring the magic and spirits of the holidays to life for any audience.
This production has been in development since the summer. Auditions were held in August before school began, and all the choreography and songs were memorized weeks in advance.
“It’s always a unique experience taking a familiar story and trying to give it a new twist. I think the cast and I have come up with our own version of this story that stays faithful to the original while also bringing something new for audiences to enjoy,” said director Whitney LaBarge.
Stagecraft has been working tirelessly to create a live set for the show, crafting everything from wooden structures and designs to fully painted props and backgrounds. Working with professional designers, they handle technological elements that happen throughout the show. The setting will transport the audience through Scrooge’s journey, immersing them in the cold streets of Victorian London and the warmth of Christmas time.
Six elementary and middle school students from AUSD have also been cast into the play as characters such as Tiny Tim, Child Scrooge, and other ensemble children, adding authenticity to the youthful scenes in the show. This’ll be a great way for them to experience life on stage and perform in front of a full, engaged audience alongside older, experienced actors. The cast’s excitement for the play is clear.
“Christmas Carol has been such a fun production to work on! There are so many fun songs and scenes that we’re working on to make the production wonderful to watch!” said Advanced Theatre student junior Sreekar Raja.
With months of preparation to produce an entertaining performance full of energy, emotion, and festivity, it’s clear this has been a tremendous effort from everyone involved. A Christmas Carol by the Arcadia Stage is an event that should not be missed!
