Ms. Ma’s class used acrylic paint and different canvas to create a scene that they conjured up in their minds. Each piece is unique in their own way, with its own story and characters.
Manaru Luo
Heart of White Whale
Medium: Acrylic paint on paper
The inspiration for my layer painting artwork comes from a reinterpretation and extension of the novel Moby Dick, featuring the character Ishmael and her story in the game Limbus Company under development studio, Project Moon. I gradually completed each layer of the painting under the guidance of Ms. Ma. It is a very happy thing to be able to draw what I like. (Manaru’s artwork was chosen as one of the Superintendent’s Art Award recipients.)
Camila Al-Zubair
Smiski Hero
Medium: Acrylic paint on paper
What most inspired my still life piece was the process of creating with reference photos and experimenting with the lighting. This was my first time creating a full piece with acrylic paints, so I had some difficulties trying to recreate how the light shone through the original. There’s a lot I still can learn, and next time I want to better capture the look I wanted.
Sophia Romero
Deep in Love
Medium: Acrylic paint on cardboard
I was inspired to make this painting for my graffiti art project because I loved the style of the artist Hayao Miyazaki and the anime Ponyo. It was one of my favorite shows because of the storyline. The process took a long time considering the size of the cardboard and other projects I was working on. I think I successfully tried to make the painting as 3D as possible, I initially wanted to create a whole different painting, but I was convinced to keep this one and in the end I’m glad I did.
