Ms. Ma’s class experiments with a new medium of art: charcoal. Using different techniques, each student created a work of art that resonated with them.

Virtual Angel
I wanted my drawing to have a softer look and used a reference of a celebrity with angel wings. I tried to make the background as dark as I could by putting pressure on the charcoal. I also erased some areas so that her wings popped out. This was my first time using charcoal, and I am eager to try it again.

The Figure
I was inspired by Leonardo da Vinci and his drawings. I used techniques like smudging and modified my artwork after making some mistakes. It took some time to create this.

When I heard charcoal drawing, my first thought was to make a shark because I knew how creative and dark I could get using the medium.
