The weather lately may have been cold and rainy, but not even freezing weather can stop our Girls Water Polo team from excelling. With a staggering record of 5-0 in league and 11-5 overall, the Girls have a great shot in making CIF this season, and that is something that many of the girls are excited for! However, there are a few things that a girls need to work on to maximize their full potential and overall performance throughout the season.

Junior Lauren Sargent states that there are a lot of things that the team needs to work on, such as “bad passes that get stolen from the opposing team” or “driving into open water and offense when someone gets ejected”. Conversely, Lauren also talks about the many strengths that the teams possesses, such as “communicating with each other and getting open for each other to pass and shoot”. This shows that although there are things to work on, there are also things that are already good as is, which speaks for why their overall record is so impressive, but can be taken to the next level.

The team has been through a lot of great moments throughout the season. None could have matched the feeling of defeating Burroughs twice in the previous season. Widely renown as the best Girls Water Polo team in the area, the Lady Apaches were able to take them down not only once, but twice, one being in league finals! This shows how great and underrated our team is, and that we have the capability of making a deep run in CIF. In addition, there should be great memories to this relatively successful season. Last season, the girls were at a dull record at 4-8, with zero hope in CIF or post-season aspirations. This season, they have not only broken to receive a positive record, but they are also in the CIF tournament, the first round being in Santa Monica. This is a huge increase in growth and maturity, which shows that the girls seem to be figuring out how to not only play better individually, but also as a team.

Overall, girls water polo is something to be very excited about, as the team is growing and growing by each game. With a little more improvement on some things that hey can control, this team definitely has the capabilities to make a deep run in CIF, or possibly even win it! Great job girls!
