Rose Bowl Game

At the start of every year the Rose Bowl Game is played, where 2 college football teams battle it out in Pasadena, California. Traditionally being hosted on January 1st, the Rose Bowl is nicknamed the “Granddaddy of Them All”, since it is the oldest bowl game. Ever since 1916, this historic and prestigious game has been played annually, and consistently proved to be one of the highest attended college football games.

Originally, the first Rose Bowl Game was played in 1902 when the Michigan Wolverines beat Stanford in a 49 to 0 blowout. The game, which at the time was called the “Tournament East-West Football Game,” was intended to help fund the annual Rose Parade, but due to the one-sidedness of the game in 1902, the Tournament of Roses officials did not host another Rose Bowl Game until 1916, where Washington State University defeated Brown University on New Year’s Day. In addition, the Rose Bowl Game was not actually played at the Rose Bowl until 1923. The games were first played at Pasadena’s Tournament Park, which is about 3 miles southeast of the current Rose Bowl.

Just this past New Year’s we’ve had another Rose Bowl Game, in which the Georgia Bulldogs, who are first in SEC East, duked it out against the Oklahoma Sooners, who are first in the Big 12. The game ended with the Bulldogs winning 54 to 48. Jake Fromm, Georgia’s main quarterback, had an outstanding game with a total of 210 yards passed with no interceptions. On the other hand, Oklahoma’s Baker Mayfield passed a total of 287 yards, but had one interception.

Overall, the Rose Bowl Game is not just a regular football game; it is a prestigious tradition that has been preserved for over a hundred years and a game that many look forward to every year.
