Arcadia Stage Coffeehouse

Sage Guzman, Staff Writer

From the fall play production to the spring musical, Arcadia Stage continues to amaze us with their impeccable showcases and incredible theater skills. Besides the major productions put on by the AHS theater department, there aren’t many other opportunities throughout the year for theatrical artists to perform in front of a live audience.

For this reason, last year, the Arcadia Stage officers decided to host an event where any theater student from any level can share their talent in an open mic-like setting. This way, not only does the public have more opportunities to recognize hard working and skilled students from the program as a whole, but students will also have more practice being on stage and being comfortable around audiences. Furthermore, this also allows students from the different skill levels to bond more and perform together in one event. After a successful outcome from last year, Arcadia Stage is bringing back the event again this year!

This year, on Jan. 26, this event, known as the “Coffeehouse”, will be hosted for the second year at the Black Box Theater in the PAC. Their pieces will include everything from musical theater to poetry slams. Performances will also range from monologues from different genres, such as comedy and drama, to group performances. Many performers have been diligently practicing their speeches and scenes since winter break.

If you’re interested in supporting Arcadia Stage, be sure to attend this event! Tickets will be sold for $5, which can be purchased from any Intermediate or Advanced Theater member, or purchased online from arcadiastage.com. Last year’s audience consisted of over a hundred guests and this year’s audience, with more publicity, is expected to exceed that amount. In addition, not only will audience members enjoy their time at the event, but all the money gained will be going towards a good cause in supporting student education scholarships in the arts.  Coffee will be sold, as well as donuts during the short intermission. The Coffeehouse will be from 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m., and doors will open 30 minutes before the event. We hope to see you all there!
