Trends that are a Blast from the Blast

  1. Large Hoop Earrings

Large hoop earrings were classic to the 80’s and 90’s, and the trend carried over to the 2000’s. Now, once again, they are in full resurgence. Pairs with charms, multiple hoops, different shapes, and textures have also been popularized. Scroll through Instagram or take a look around school, and you’re bound to see a pair.

  1. Platform Shoes

People have always wanted to add to their height, whether it be to assert dominance or increase confidence. Height-boosting shoes date back to ancient Greece when characters in plays wore sandals with platforms of cork to show importance. In modern times, the first major appearance of platform shoes in the western world was in the 30’s, with Salvatore Ferragamo’s rainbow-colored, cork-heeled sandal. Then in the 70’s, disco lovers spoiled themselves with high-platform shoes and in the 90’s, platform sneakers were popularized. Now, platform shoes and chunkier shoes in general are all the rage.

  1. Fishnets

These versatile pieces appeared in fashion during the “Roaring Twenties”, when flappers and showgirls wore them. Since then, they’ve only gained momentum, especially with the punk crowd in the 70’s and the grunge movement in the 90’s. Now, you can often catch them layered under skirts and ripped jeans. This style is not only limited to stockings either, and has since emerged in tops and dresses too.

  1. Branded Tracksuits

You may remember seeing, maybe even wearing, velvety Juicy Couture hoodies and track pants in elementary school, but then regretting those decisions in middle school. Well, now they are back in fashion and often sold out! Other branded tracksuits, like those from Adidas, have also been on the rise too; you’re destined to see at least a couple pairs of Tiro 17 Training Pants on any given day.

  1. Vans

In the 2000s, both slip-on Vans and Old Skool Vans were popular choices, just as they are now. Their simple styles make them easy to pair with nearly anything. However currently, checkered slip-on Vans have been the thing to own, despite their mismatched appearance.

Chances are, you own at least one of these items, and for good reason too! As the fashion cycle continues to make its way around, there’s no doubt that we’ll continue to encounter the reappearances of old trends.
