A new cafe, Tekosu Cafe, has recently opened in Arcadia, and it’s already drawing in many customers. Located next to the Arcadia United States Post Office and 24 Hour Fitness on Wheeler Ave, Tekosu brings a new drink and study spot to the area. An Indonesian-owned business, it specializes in coffee and matcha-based drinks, as well as offering a selection of food items and pastries. 

When you walk in, you’re greeted by a clean and minimalistic space. The cafe utilizes mostly natural lighting rather than bright overhead lighting, resulting in a calming and relaxed atmosphere. There are a lot of tables for studying or sitting with friends. Additionally, with free WiFi available, Tekosu is an appealing spot for students looking to study or get work done. 

Tekosu Cafe’s menu features many different types of drinks, with prices typically ranging from $7 to $8. However, some drinks can reach all the way up to $10. While the price is a bit on the higher side compared to some other spots, interviewees feel that the flavor makes up for it. 

“I got the double matcha, and it tastes really good,” said senior Han Phan, “But it was $10, which is pretty crazy.” The double matcha is a matcha latte with a matcha cream top. 

In my opinion, I think their matcha is nice and mild, making it a good option for those who prefer a less bitter taste. I ordered a matcha with sweet cream top, and found it wasn’t overly thick, unlike some other matcha places. Also, one of my friends got a coffee and I had the chance to take a sip. I noticed a similar quality, that it was also mild, smooth, and not bitter.

“I got the lavender espresso,” said senior Nathaniel Lim, “It’s bomb. The lavender flavor is popping, and the coffee flavor is very down to earth.” 

However, there are a few minor drawbacks to note. Some customers found the drink lids difficult to open, and the strawberry matcha uses a pre-bought puree rather than fresh strawberries.

Overall, Tekosu Cafe offers a trendy new spot in Arcadia with good flavors and a relaxing environment, making it a solid choice for both studying and grabbing a drink.
