After the final bell rings at Arcadia High School (AHS), students disperse in separate ways, but many take a short walk to Joker’s Koffee, a cozy neighborhood cafe located on 1 W Duarte Road, Arcadia. Numerous students come here to study while enjoying delicious Asian-style snacks and soaking up the signature comfy essence of Joker’s Koffee, while others come to just sit in the cafe to hang out with friends. Whatever the reason, this coffee shop is a popular spot for students to relax after a long day at school.
Joker’s Koffee has been open since around 2016, serving customers and our community for over nine years. The staff is always courteous to the students who stop by to order food, making it a pleasure to eat and drink there. Customers would order fan favorites such as the Matcha Latte or Milk Tea with Boba.
Entering the shop, people are instantly hit with the aroma of freshly brewed coffee, sweet pastries, and tropical teas, hinting at the variety of drinks and snacks inside. There’s inviting seating scattered neatly around the shop, and trinkets and plants decorate the place, elevating its appearance.
“I like to go to Joker’s Koffee to get food, drinks, and hang out with my friends because the workers there are very chill. They’re funny and kind, and I love staying there to grab a drink before going to the library to study,” said freshman Evangeline Jing.
Some of the most popular drinks at the cafe include the Vietnamese Coffee, Matcha Latte, Milk Tea, and the Caramel Latte Frappe. Some foods include a variety of onigiri rice balls, croissants, and sandwiches.
“I really like the coconut latte frappe—I’d really recommend it to anyone [who] hasn’t been there yet,” said Jing. “The atmosphere is really studious, and I like to stay there for a while with my friends.”
Some meals and hot foods on the menu include, but are not limited to, beef bowls, orange chicken, rice balls, and cheeseburgers—the variety appeals to customers, luring them to the cafe.
Freshman Brianna Chan thought Joker’s Koffee was unique from other cafes around the area. “I like their variety of flavors, and I like how you can customize it to your liking. I love how the staff there is so nice to everyone; it really makes everyone feel welcome. I’d say the community here is pretty close-knit—everyone’s kind to each other, including the staff.”
Joker’s Koffee is a great study spot because of its quiet, comfortable atmosphere. There are solo seats facing windows, reserving a peaceful, independent spot for students who want to focus on their own work.
Furthermore, their food and drinks taste fresh and light, which sets them apart from other fast-food chains. Many customers have their own favorite menu item that keeps them coming back for more.
“I really love the tuna onigiri—I always get it whenever I’m on the go because it’s a delicious and quick snack. The cheeseburger is also really good; it felt more homemade and light—very different from other restaurants,” said sophomore Jacey Yeung.
