Growing up on the East Coast in a small town called Hillsdale in Northern New Jersey gave me the most special memories of my childhood. Our neighborhood was quiet, surrounded by tall maple trees that turned bright red and gold in the fall, and every corner seemed to hold a piece of my childhood. I remember running down the sidewalks after school and anticipating the sound of the door unlocking, to be welcomed with the warmth of a hug from my parents after a long day of work.
My mom and dad worked hard every single day, but they still never missed the moments that mattered most. Whether it was cheering at my elementary school track meets, applauding for my class winter and spring concerts, accommodating my last-minute requests, or supporting a new hobby I wanted to pursue, they were there every step of the way. Looking back, I realize they made so many sacrifices to always make sure I felt supported and loved.
They taught me the importance of kindness, honesty, and perseverance. When I stumbled, instead of getting mad at me, they reminded me that I only ever had something to learn from. When I succeeded, they reminded me to stay humble and grateful. Because of them, I learned that love isn’t just about words, but about even the smallest things that don’t seem that big.
I never felt like I was under too much pressure to be perfect. Instead, they trusted me to find my own balance between work and play. That trust motivated me to become hardworking on my own, not because I had to, but because I wanted to make them and myself proud. They encouraged the concept that the only validation I should be looking for is from myself.
Because of their gentle guidance, I learned how to set my own goals, stay disciplined, and take ownership of my actions. Their faith in me taught me confidence and self-motivation, qualities that continue to help me in everything I do.
Thank you, Mom and Dad, for raising me with love, freedom, and understanding. By always supporting me and encouraging my dreams with love, you showed me that the best kind of parenting is not about strict rules, but rather trust, patience, and unconditional support. Everything I am today is a reflection of the values you taught me and the love you both have always given.
