There is a quiet kind of love that doesn’t need to be loud to be felt, a type of quiet that is shown through small yet meaningful actions, filled with warmth and thoughtfulness that leave a lasting mark. One aunt shows this kind of love every day. She doesn’t always express it with big words or dramatic gestures; her care is easily seen in the little things she does.

As I grew up, my aunt had this ability to make any moment in life a bit more extraordinary. She would always allow me to play Super Smash Bros on her Nintendo Switch, and for all the times we played together, she almost always managed to beat me. Those games were full of laughter, friendly teasing, and fun competition. Those afternoon hours were not about winning or losing; they were about that time shared together, showing how much she cared, even without needing to say it.

She has a kind heart that shows in the little things that most people wouldn’t pay much attention to. Anytime she goes out shopping, whether it’s to Comic Con or just to the mall, she returns with something tiny in her hands but really meaningful: a keychain, a poster, or just something to show that she had someone else in mind. Those little gifts might seem simple, but they carry a lot of love. 

Her love for baking is another part of what makes her special. She enjoys making cookies that fill the house with a sweet smell that brings everyone to the kitchen. Of all her desserts, her peach cobbler remains one of the best, always served warm, topped with a scoop of Trader Joe’s vanilla ice cream. Every bite transports you into a warm cascade of sweetness and love. Baking for others is her way of showing care, and everyone who tastes her treats can feel it.  

Even though she doesn’t always show her emotions openly, she has a beautiful and loving side that is visible when she talks. Once she opens up, she loves to share stories (or vent), laugh, and ramble about things she enjoys. Beneath the quiet character is an outburst of energy, colors adding pigment to every conversation.

This Thanksgiving, she is especially cherished for the ways she brightens the life of those around her. Her laughter, empathy, and the way she thinks of others leave a lasting impression, creating memories that those around her will carry and cherish for years to come.
