Nowadays, the internet is filled with videos of snack and drink trends claiming to be good. Social media has been taken over by these mixtures all over TikTok and Instagram. 

“I see these videos on my home page when I am scrolling at night every day. They do look good sometimes,” said freshman Kenzo Duong.

Now,  cafés, food trucks, and restaurants all scramble to  create the next big thing for others to try: mixing birria tacos with ramen, pancakes with milk, and Reese’s chocolate candy with pickles.

But with these trends going viral for years, people mixing different types of food with other types of things together, are they any good?

 Freshman Royce Merluza tried the viral trend with ice cream wrapped in a Fruit Roll-Up. “It makes the candy crunchy while the ice cream is cold, and this freezes the candy, which then sticks to my teeth. It is basically making the candy harder to eat, and it doesn’t taste good either. I don’t like it,” he said.

With many of these creative combinations blending flavors that don’t even match or taste well together, like sweet candy and hot spicy ramen, it is now a trend to create snacks that are “Instagram-worthy” and strange enough to intrigue others to try them, rather than them being delicious. 

What started as someone trying to combine foods one day to see if it is good has now caused millions of people to do as well.

In Arcadia, some students love these trends and fusion mixtures as they create fun food combinations to try and always be surprised, as they don’t know what to expect.

 “It’s kind of cool seeing flavors from my culture mixed with other cultures, making a new type of food or trend for others to try,” said senior Tom Yu.

Freshman Yale Zhong said, “Foods get boring sometimes, so these fusion mixtures make it more interesting, and our generation isn’t used to mixing or combining foods. I think this is a great way for others to try out new creations, and maybe it will shock somebody.”

Ultimately, these viral fusion snacks and trends caused hype all over the world. Everyone has different tastes, but these trends make life more fun, and they make us try something new.
