Throughout the year, the Wellness Committee—a group of students who work alongside school counselors to help ensure student wellness and plan events—work together to organize wellness activities. For the second semester, on Feb. 19 during lunch at the Rally Court, the committee hosted a Wellness Wednesday that featured a painting activity.
The Wellness Committee members for this activity helped set up all the tables; the Rally Court was set up with three tables, one to make bracelets and two for coaster making. At these tables, students had the opportunity to paint and personalize their own coasters, available in both circle and square shapes. The Wellness Committee provided students with paintbrushes, water cups, and a wide variety of colorful paints that they could mix on their own tin foil palette.
“I think it’s really amazing to see the school host and show ways that we can decompress from stress, like making pretty art coasters while hanging out with friends,” said junior May Wang.
Additionally, they provided threads to create threaded bracelets, with a large variety of colored threads to use.
Wellness Wednesday encourages a lot of students to engage in more school activities as well as bring awareness to the fact that the Wellness Center is available to help students as a way to provide relief during stressful periods.
“A couple times a semester, we try to have a wellness activity, and painting seems really popular, so that’s what we’re doing today,” said Dr. Deja Anderson, the Arcadia High School Social and Emotional Learning Counselor. “We also have another activity called Heart Month, and so this week we are taking a moment to spread positivity and to give students a moment to think about the good things in life instead of the negative.”
