On the sunny afternoon of Jan. 16, Arcadia High School’s (AHS) Girls Soccer team played against Burbank High School (BHS) in a match at home, securing a victory of 7-0. Enthusiastic fans crowded the stands, chanting and demonstrating constant enthusiasm as they supported their respective teams.
AHS’ play was consistently possession-oriented throughout the game and maintained control over the ball. The girls were very direct and persistent at going towards the goal while keeping up their composure. They also maintained a high tempo game that impressed everyone observing their match.
At halftime, AHS was leading 4-0, and added another three goals in the second half.
Throughout the match, many goals came from shots outside the 18-yard penalty box. But still, a few more goals were from combination plays and follow throughs.
Some of the players who contributed a goal were sophomore Brooke Monson and senior Brennen Shalabi.
Monson, a midfielder and forward positioned player, expressed her thoughts on how her and her team played: “I think we as a team played really well and we kept our position throughout the majority of the game. I don’t really think there were too many memorable moments that come to mind but our passing and movement of the ball was really good and actually impressed me a lot.”
“A special moment from the game was when my friend and defender, sophomore Marcela Lugo, had the ball and started dribbling down the line. She was about 30 yards out and what looked like a cross, she shot the ball and made an amazing and passionate goal. Everyone was so happy for her when she made it,” said Shalabi. “We ended up winning, and it was a great game. We were definitely in our groove, and our passing was amazing throughout. I really do love playing with the girls on my team!”
This game’s results attest to the team’s skills this season, but they’re aiming to continue their winning streak next game against Pasadena High School on Feb 5.
