Unique DIY Halloween Decorations

When it comes to Halloween porch decorations, there are tons of different options that you can buy. However, when people think of homemade Halloween decorations, jack-o’-lanterns are often the only things that comes to mind. Here are some other fun DIY decorations you can make this Halloween.

  1. Lanterns

Making jack-o-lanterns can be both messy and tiring. Why spend the time carving a pumpkin when you can just make fun lanterns from things you already have? Punch holes into a tin can, cut shapes out of paper bags, or draw faces and other spooky silhouettes onto glass jars and empty milk jugs. Put in some electric tea lights and you’ve got yourself some cute lanterns!

  1. Floral Pumpkins

Maybe this Halloween, you’d like to go with a prettier design for your porch. Paint a pumpkin with a color of your choice and let it dry. Then, snip the stems of some flowers about one to two inches from the buds, drill small holes in the rind, and put in the flowers. Try to use plastic flowers; you won’t have to worry about keeping the flowers alive and you can also add hot glue or another strong adhesive to the holes when putting in the flowers, making your decoration sturdier.

  1. Cheesecloth Ghosts

This DIY may be slightly more complicated, but it’s also a lot more impressive. First, make the frames for the “bodies” of your ghosts. One common way is to attach balloons to the mouths of empty soda bottles, adding wire and shaping it to form arms. Prepare a bowl of diluted glue or liquid starch. Cover your work space with paper or scrap fabric to protect the surface. Next, cut out pieces of cheesecloth just slightly larger than the body shape of the ghost, and soak them in the mixture. Carefully wring them out, and then drape them on the frame. Add two or three layers of cheesecloth, making sure the excess pools at the bottom. Then, let it dry, preferably overnight. Once it’s dry, peel it off your work space. If you’d like, you can add felt or paper eyes to the ghost.

This Halloween, go crazy with your DIY porch decorations! Not only will you have a bunch of compliments on your creative decor, but you’ll also be able to save a lot of money. Happy Halloween!
