With fresh leadership at the helm, Arcadia High School (AHS) introduces its newest ASB Director, Ms. Stefani Spitz. She and the student council are actively involved in shaping many of the school’s activities.
As a student, Ms. Spitz attended Esperanza High School in Anaheim; while she wasn’t a part of ASB in her time as a student, she has a large leadership role as the ASB Director. Her college experience at the University of California, Riverside, became the foundation for her teaching career. She taught special education for several years as a teacher’s assistant at UCR, and it was during this time that her career truly bloomed. As a teacher’s assistant in college, Ms. Spitz often observed students having breakthroughs, when concepts would “click” in their minds. This truly inspired her to continue her work where she would be able to observe students as the ASB Director and help them plan events for AHS.
Now, Ms. Spitz serves as the ASB Director who organizes school events like Homecoming, Prom, socials, and more, while also teaching her students how to do the very same.
Ms. Spitz took over as ASB Director after Mr. Vo was promoted. She was inspired and honored to step into the role because she loves working with students and planning activities. She also believes it will be a great opportunity to learn about a different type of community in the ASB student population. Ms. Spitz recognizes the challenges of her job, such as dealing with differing opinions and making sure a school event is enjoyable for all students. She makes sure to listen to the student body’s thoughts on an event in order to improve it.
Ms. Spitz explained the traits needed to be a successful ASB Director.
“I think you have to be friendly and personable and able to problem solve,” said Ms. Spitz.
Ms. Spitz shared that the most rewarding aspect of being the ASB Director is seeing students enjoy being part of a community. Despite the busy life of ASB Director, she always uses agendas to keep her schedule organized.
With so many differing opinions on events to plan, Ms. Spitz explained how she prioritizes the students’ decision on certain planned events or functions and emphasizes that it is her job to simply give some insight. She also highlighted the significant changes since the start of the school year, particularly in the rise of events. Her favorite event so far has been the Ice Cream Social.
Outside of her job at AHS, she is a mother of two and tries to focus her life around her son, Ryker, and her daughter, Kinsley. Their interests center around sports, and she loves watching them enjoy their hobbies, even joining in herself.
As a final piece of advice to students interested in joining ASB but doubtful of their leadership abilities, Ms. Spitz urged them to go for it—they just need to have confidence. AHS is excited to welcome Ms. Spitz to our community.
