With only two weeks left in the school year, the Class of 2024 has a lot of exciting activities to look forward to before closing this high school chapter of their lives. At the Senior Assembly that took place on May 22, Arcadia High School (AHS) Activities Director Mr. Peter Vo made several announcements ranging from Senior Week events to graduation information.
To start the assembly off, AHS Principal Angela Dillman grabbed the crowd’s attention by announcing the Class of 2024 valedictorian, Casey Kim. The audience clapped and cheered as Kim made his way down to the center stage and briefly expressed his gratitude for this recognition.
“I am extremely honored and grateful to receive this distinction because it gives me a position to say the final words of our high school lives, speaking the words that basically transform us into adults,” said Kim. “Personally, I found that my drive comes from trying out anything I find interesting and enjoying the moment, which led me to so many amazing people and organizations. I am proud of this recognition of my efforts to explore the world and thank everyone for their support.”
Mr. Vo proceeded to inform seniors about the yearbook distribution taking place right after the assembly at the rally court. He then briefly reminded them to return all items that had been checked out from the library before or by Thursday, May 30.
The audience listened attentively as Mr. Vo began to talk about the upcoming Senior Week activities that will be taking place during the week of May 27. Events will be held after school that week with the exception of Friday, when seniors will be excused from their classes all day. The events lined up for that week include Drive-In Movie Night on Tuesday, Senior Sunset and Senior Awards on Wednesday, Senior Chalk Day on Thursday, as well as the Senior Talent Show and Grad Run on Friday. Seniors have this chance to enjoy their time in high school one last time.
“In 50 years, I may not remember everyone or everything, but I will remember how I felt throughout my high school experience: that I belonged,” said Kim.
Mr. Vo then provided information on how to obtain a Place-in-Line card for graduation day. This ticket is vital for graduates to know where they will be seated at the ceremony, and includes all the details of the ceremony to send to desired guests. In order to receive a Place-in-Line card, students must complete a contract found on the school website and turn it in at the Performing Arts Center (PAC) courtyard on May 28 to 30.
This year, the Baccalaureate ceremony will take place on June 2 in the PAC. Mr. Vo mentioned that this will be a good opportunity for seniors to take pictures in their cap and gown as it will get heavily crowded on the actual graduation day. The crowd once again gave a huge round of applause when Mr. Vo announced the three salutatorians who will be giving a speech at the Baccalaureate: Patience Choi, Sophia Li, and Michelle So.
Lastly, Mr. Vo reminded the seniors about the upcoming finals week, and summarized graduation information as well as diploma pick up. As the assembly concluded, the Class of 2024 departed the North Gym eager to cherish their last few weeks as high school students, savoring the remaining moments and looking forward to the future with anticipation and fond memories.
