Girls Golf Wins Pacific League Finals

Girls+Golf+Wins+Pacific+League+Finals

The Girls Varsity Golf team of Arcadia High School (AHS) entered the League Finals on Oct. 10 at the Brookside Golf Course. It is the oldest golf course located in Los Angeles County. It happens to be adjacent to the famous Pasadena Rose Bowl and is also home to multiple Professional Golfers’ Association (PGA) tournaments. During this compelling game, the six girls on the golf team individually placed in the top 11 of the League Finals.

Ranking 2nd place in the Pacific League standings, junior Zoe Sprecher expressed her enthusiasm with the outcome after the game. She made the team’s best score at Brookside, a 2-under 73.

“It was a little exciting, going into another golfing year and being captain of the team,” said Sprecher. She added that she and her team, undefeated for three years, look forward to competing in the upcoming California Interscholastic Federation (CIF) tournament “and hopefully bringing home another CIF title.”

Sophomore Olivia Lee channeled her apprehension into adrenaline during the exciting Brookside game.

“Prior to matches, I practice situational golf and difficult recovery shots,” she said. “Going into the game, I told myself to keep the ball straight and not get too greedy with my shots … I trusted my skills and executed my shots intentionally. ”

Junior Madeline Lee also felt anxious going into the League Finals. She explained that this game was her final opportunity to advance into the top three of the Pacific League standings.

“I typically have a 1.5-hour warm-up before the round. It helps me focus and build consistency in my swing, so I can feel confident when playing and focus on scoring well,” said Madeline Lee.

However, she was slightly disappointed in her 2-over 77 score. During the first nine holes, Madeline Lee shot a +5, but was remarkably able to come back from it with a -3 in the back nine.

“I definitely could have improved on being less ambitious to start off the round, when I should have played it safe,” she said.

In the end, the AHS Girls Varsity Golf team prevailed in its League Finals game at Brookside Golf Course and should all be very proud of themselves.

“Coach Greep and Coach Seiler are our biggest motivators and foster great team chemistry!” said Olivia Lee. She gives thanks to Coach Robert Greep and Assistant Coach David Seiler for guiding the girls throughout this successful game!
