Making Your Summer Worthwhile

Aaron Chan, Writer

Excited to start off your summer with the urge to abandon all school assignments and any sort of work in general? Are you excited to spend two and a half months doing nothing but eating and napping? This may seem like your ideal summer, but what about having some true excitement? In terms of having fun for the summer, it is completely opposite to the idea of doing absolutely nothing. To enjoy summer at its fullest, you need to plan out some curricular activities, all of them being active or educational. You may agree to active activities such as traveling, playing sports, or even attend exciting events, but you may be confused about doing educational activities. Yes, receiving education can be somewhat fun over the summer. Don’t see education as something boring and strenuous; see it as something that could be entertaining. Attending summer school for leisure is a great way to receive education while still having some fun. It is the best way to fill time and your brain up with knowledge before school starts. At this point, you have many reasons to not attend summer school as something fun, but there are benefits to attending. In fact, there are a lot of benefits to not just summer school, but also active activities in general.

The benefits of doing active activities over the summer is self-explanatory. It not only builds up your health physically, but mentally. You can gain new experiences without straining yourself with schoolwork as you would do during the school year. You can try out new things and discover new abilities in life. And when you succeed at doing so, you will receive a new sense of pride that you can show off. For example, in sport, you can test your physical ability against your opponents and find out if you are a champion. Having that feeling of victory gives you bragging rights against your friends and classmate at the beginning of school. Overall, when you come back to school, you will have a lot experiences to share with your classmates. So when your English teacher assigns the whole class an essay on what you did over the summer, you will end up with a five page essay that will impress any readers.

So how does summer school benefit you and makes your summer worthwhile? First of all, don’t worry about work as the work there is very light and probably not strenuous at all. Because having two and a half month of no work can deteriorate your ability to study, summer school is a great way to prevent that from happening. Like doing active activities, you gain experiences that you can share with the class.
The most depressing part of your childhood is when summer is over and school starts again. If you were active over the summer, you not only have stories to share, but you can succeed at the beginning of school as you are already prepared. You can embrace happiness at the beginning of school.
