On Dec. 10, Arcadia High School (AHS) students got to view the 2021 Winter Assembly via livestream. The assembly featured multiple different performances from students in the arts such as Choir, Orchesis, Orchestra, and more.

The assembly started with a performance by the AHS Chanteurs. They performed “Wolcum Yole!” from A Ceremony of Carols by Benjamin Britten. They then performed “Once Upon a December” by Anastasia by Stephen Flaherty followed by ”It Came Upon a Midnight Clear” by Richard S. Willis/ arr. John Leavitt.

“The opening performance was perfect because it set the mood for the rest of the assembly, and I really enjoyed it,” stated junior Melanie Borrayo.

The wonderful performance by the Chanteurs was then followed by a performance from the AHS Saxophone Quartet. They performed “All Come Ye Faithful,” arranged by Lennie Niehaus.

“I loved hearing the saxophones perform. It was very satisfying to listen to,” stated freshman Kelly Fong.

The performance was followed by another performance from the Orchesis Dance Company (ODC) to “Like its Christmas” by the Jonas Brothers. Not only did ODC perform this dance at the winter assembly, but they also opened the Charity Dance Show with this routine. The routine was fun and upbeat and got many students in the holiday mood.

“We worked really hard on this routine. We spent countless hours practicing and polishing the routine for our performances so I hope everyone enjoyed it,” stated ODC member Filicia Wu.

The performance by Orchesis was followed by a performance from the AHS Chanteurs Trio. They performed “Underneath the Tree” by Kelly Clarkson and did a fantastic job.

“The Chanteurs trio did a great job, and I loved hearing them sing one of my favorite Christmas songs,” stated freshman Lexi Ledesma.

Then, introduced by Kaylee Wong, ASB Performing Arts Commissioner, the Orchestra performed a few holiday classics along with “Serenade” by Robert Fukes.

To end the assembly, Orchestra was joined by the wind ensemble, choir, and percussion to perform “Sleigh Ride” by Leroy Anderson.

“The closing performance was my favorite performance. I loved how there was a culmination of groups from the performing arts and how well they collaborated to create a great product,” stated junior Ruth Guracha.

Overall, the Winter Assembly was a success. With great performances showcasing the extremely talented performing arts department at AHS, students and faculty got to enjoy performances that embodied the holiday spirit. We hope the performances got you in the holiday mood; Happy Holidays!
