Thank You, Thor

No, not the superhero. I’m nowhere as thankful for him as I am for my cat, Thor. My sweet, sweet, son. Everyone who has ever seen a picture of him or met him has instantly fallen in love with him. He’s too cute.

I remember first setting eyes on Thor at the San Gabriel Humane Society. He was the most adorable, tiny kitten. Thor’s original name was “Purrito” because he purred whenever wrapped in a blanket, like a burrito. The other cats that surrounded him were all named after Game of Thrones characters. Thor was very shy and extremely small, but the cutest cat there. I literally cried when I first carried him in the shelter. There was no question: obviously, we had to take him home.

We introduced Thor to our home little by little. First the laundry room, then we let him explore on his own. He often hid behind or under the couches and chairs, or in any dark spot away from us. He was really, really timid. But soon enough, Thor and I became best friends.

I used to attempt to take Thor out for “walks” on a leash outside the house, but those never really worked out. He hated his harness/leash, and never followed my lead. I really wanted to walk him around at my brother’s soccer games, but it never worked. On occasion, I was allowed to bring Thor to the soccer games. He always ended up crawling into my jacket or hoodie because of the screaming parents. Thor was not amused by those soccer games, but I wanted to be with him all the time.

Interestingly, Thor did seem to enjoy car rides. That is, until he realized car rides meant he was going to the veterinarian.

Thor has had an extensive history with the vet. Twice he ran into the street and was hit by cars. The first time, he broke his arm, the second, his tongue was almost sliced off. Recently, his maniacal behavior has died down. But of course, we had to spend too much money on procedures and medicine before he learned his lesson.

Thor is now much more sane and social. He doesn’t run away from my friends or family. He actually lets them touch and hold him. He sometimes even starts to purr when they pet him. Thor also trusts me much more than he used to. He always stretches out on his back in my arms and scratches at my door when he wants to hangout.

I’m so grateful to have found this insane, soft, sweet, hilarious cat.
