Beauty and the Beast Cafe

Nicole Soong, Staff Writer

Beauty and the Beast is one of the most anticipated movies of the year. In London, there is a special afternoon-tea cafe that was made to stimulate the characters and the food of the movie. Similar to other themed cafes like the Harry Potter, Hello Kitty, and Super Mario themed cafes, the cafe was made to promote the live-action movie of the Disney classic — Beauty and the Beast. The theme is more magical than you can imagine!

Named “Tale as Old as Time”, the cafe designed their menu based on the elements of the film, including specific characters and certain memorable scenes. The cafe features dishes that reflect popular scenes in the movie with exquisite tableware featuring the memorable characters, including Mrs. Potts, Chip Potts, Cogsworth, and Lumière, along with a selection of tailored sweet and savory dishes.

The most exciting part has come, the food! There is no other adjective than “magical” that can be used to describe the menu, which includes the chocolate tart with the character Cogsworth’s face on it, the vanilla and gold jelly served with a rose petal inside with a shot glass, snowball macaron made with coconut and chocolate that was inspired by Belle and Beast’s iconic snowball fight, and of course, the remarkable “Try the Grey Stuff” that is present as a chocolate mousse dessert at the townhouse. Among these special dishes are the beautiful cookies with decorated with icing that looks like Belle’s dress.

The cafe is located at London’s Kensington Hotel and it is open from February to November, due to the overwhelming and wild reactions from Disney fans. If you got a chance, go and eat like Belle for £35 ($36.90 USD) a head, or £45 ($47.43 USD) with a glass of champagne, but don’t forget to book beforehand because the schedule will be packed!
