An Efficient Study Session

Often times in your high school career, you will encounter plenty of study sessions. Preparing for an upcoming exam or reviewing a semester’s material can be daunting and overwhelming for many, so it is always best to know what kind of environment you enjoy studying in. The two main factors you should consider are, “Am I committing enough time for this session,” and “Am I in an environment where I feel comfortable studying?”

One main factor in choosing the right time to study is planning the day and time you want to study. You should try to be selective with the days you choose; reserve a few days for an exam. To refrain from continuously procrastinating, you should find the time that works best for you. My recommendation for a good session is either a weekend morning or a weekday after school. If or when you don’t have time for a long study session, you should at least consider doing at least a quick session.

During your study session, you might want to also consider turning off all distractions, especially your phone. The best way to refrain from using your phone is to turn on the do not disturb mode. After, you should place your phone somewhere far from your workspace so that you are not tempted to use it.

Another primary key to a productive session is to choose a place you are comfortable in, whether it is a library, a public area, or at home. When selecting a public area, you should keep in mind that the area you choose to work is not too crowded or boisterous, as long as the place is somewhere where you can actually get a productive session. The purpose is to generally be comfortable in the studying environment you are in. Sometimes people enjoy bringing friends over to study, but others prefer to study alone because that allows them to focus better. In my opinion, I recommend a quiet, spacious area when studying.

No matter how long you choose to study, you should always give yourself some breaks. Grab a snack or something to drink while you are studying because a long session can make you ravenous. Do not overwhelm and stress yourself with loads of work you still need to finish. You can always review and finish the rest the next day.

If you are struggling with keeping up with your assignments and classes, it is best that you find a tutor right away. There are so many tutoring classes nearby, including the tutoring program held in AHS. Moreover, tutoring sessions are another way of studying with a teacher or a peer who can assist you with your assignments.

Whether you are studying for an upcoming exam or completing assignments, you should acknowledge that an efficient session must include your time, commitment, and environment. With these tips, you should be able to seek an accommodating study session that is not only effective but also comfortable!
