LA Walk-In Studios

Alexis Kim, Staff Writer

Take a look around LA, and you’ll see that there are hundreds of dance studios to attend. Many of them have registration programs that involve a time commitment, but at the same time, many do not! You can simply walk in, pay for the class you wish to take, and then have fun learning a routine! Not only are they super fun, it doesn’t cost much to go once in a while.

Athletic Dance Garage

Located near Old Town Pasadena, the dance garage holds numerous classes everyday except for Sundays. For a $15 drop in rate, which is discounted to $10 on Fridays, anyone can come in to take a one hour class with their instructors. There are a wide variety of styles from contemporary and salsa to hip hop and jazz, and the classes are also based on skill level from beginning to intermediate/advanced. Known for its chill and nonjudgmental atmosphere, Athletic Dance Garage is definitely the place if you’re looking start dancing or try new things.

The Edge Performing Arts Center

At $16 per one hour class, The Edge provides a strong and professional environment for some more advanced dancers. It is located in downtown LA and with close to 30 classes per day, it is wise to take multiple classes each trip. The Edge has more styles, instructors, and classes than most drop-in studios with dancers you are sure to admire. It offers several beginning level classes, but the intermediate and advanced classes are incredible. I recommend checking out some styles that you normally wouldn’t try as you will learn a lot from the teachers here who are very unique and interesting.

Snowglobe Perspective

At a rate of $12 per class and just $25 daily, Snowglobe resides in Whittier, and it is popular for its amazing vibes and fun classes. While they offer some beginning classes, it is known for its complex hip hop combos which are filmed and uploaded online. Its main goal is to support the local choreographers, and you can check out their work on the website to see who you would like to learn from. Of course, hip hop is a diverse genre of dance so each choreographer has something new and interesting to offer.

Playground LA

An excellent dancing space with lots of energy, Playground provides classes with some of the hottest choreographers in the industry. Plus with its industrial and modern look, it is a trendy area to dance and film. For $16 per class, you can take hip-hop, grooves, jazz funk, heels, and other related styles. It also offers some master classes for advanced dancers.

Millennium Dance Complex

Arguable one of the hottest studios in LA, Millennium is dedicated to creating a welcoming space for diverse dancers. It hosts several different styles such as jazz, funk, ballet, and hip hop, but it also has many specific classes for breaking, house, and popping. It is located in Studio City with a rate of $17 for a single class. While it may be the most expensive choice out of the ones listed, it is worth spending the extra cash for the incredible instructors, and it’s a great place to film. In addition, because it is a worldwide center of commercial dance, some of its A-list clientele include Justin Timberlake, Usher, Pink, Britney Spears, Justin Bieber, Selena Gomez and Katy Perry.

With so many amazing options, I have only scratched the surface of incredible dance studios in LA. Some honorable mentions include The Vault, Kinjaz Dojo, and Movement Lifestyle. Whether you are just starting out or are already an advanced dancer, these are all great options to improve your skills.
