Student Spotlight: Anusha Silla

Alexandra Fung, Staff Writer

This month’s Student Spotlight is focused on Anusha Silla, an incredible AHS senior who has a plethora of hobbies and talents. Currently, she is a part of the Orchesis Dance Company, AHS Math Team, Temple City Youth Civic Council, Interact Club, NHS, SMW, Arcadia Speech and Debate Team and is a piano player, Rose Parade Student Ambassador, and National Merit Scholarship Semi-Finalist. How does she manage all of her activities, and what has she learned from them?

At school, Anusha manages being on the Math Team, Speech and Debate Team, NHS, Interact, and Orchesis by “planning out each week ahead of time and being flexible with last-minute changes.” In NHS, she holds an officer position as the ASC Math Head and in Interact, she holds a position as the club President. This year, she became one of 23 Apaches to become 2018 National Merit Scholarship Semi-Finalists by taking the 2017 PSAT/NMSQT.

Starting at the age of five, she started learning Bharatanatyam dance, performing at various cultural festivals and professional Indian events. This summer, she actually “graduated” from Bharatanatyam by “performing a continuous, two-hour solo performance.” She has also tried Bollywood and hip hop, competing with the Junior Hit List competition team. Her dance experience prompted her to try out for Orchesis for her senior year, giving her “the opportunity to learn new styles and grow as a dancer.”

Before she graduates at the end of the school year, she hopes to “make a difference in her school and community” and also wants to learn the ukulele. Anusha’s impressive list of extracurriculars, long streak of academic success, and humble personality is truly dumbfounding. Stick around for next month’s Student Spotlight!
