Why You Should Splurge

Believe it or not, keeping a budget and limiting yourself is just as important as spending! I’ve had so many days where I’ve passed up the chance to buy something I loved because it was too expensive. Then, I went went back to the store, the product was gone, and the price was raised. You can guess that major regret kicked in. Here is why you should spend a little bit of extra money once in a while, just to keep yourself satisfied.

  • Benefits in the Long-Run: Buying an expensive designer bag almost always seems impractical in the moment. However, before deciding against buying this handbag or backpack, think about how long the purse could last you. A cheaper purse priced at about $10-15 usually won’t last long due to its fabric quality. A more expensive purse could be useful for more years than any cheaper one. That way, if you splurge on an expensive bag now, you can put it to good use for a long time before having to worry about searching to buy a new one.
  • Spend Wisely: Most people are going to tell you the items you spend your money on are going to waste. This is actually only a decision you can make for yourself, depending on how useful the item actually becomes. This is why you should still splurge, but do it wisely. It would be helpful to set aside a spending limit, within the amount of money you want to spend. This way, you won’t be left in debt or have hardly enough left for your daily needs. If you plan ahead, you won’t feel so bad about the amount your spending because you’ll know that it’s still somewhat reasonable. Just be wise with your money, because as Warren Buffet, one of the richest men today, said, “Do not save what is left after spending, but spend what is left after saving.”
  • Keep Yourself Happy: As we are all creatures of habit, we also get bored with the items we have. Personally, every few months, I get tired of my closet that is already full of clothes and feel the need to go shopping. Once I do enough damage, my heart is full again. It’s not that materialistic items matter, it’s that these physical objects that you love can still bring you joy every once in a while, although it’s important to know that spending unreasonable amounts of money isn’t the only way to bring happiness and isn’t an option for all. Just compare the pair of earphones you treasure so much now, to the little race car toy you couldn’t leave the house with as a child. Believe it or not, some items we love just have the ability to keep us happy just like special moments and humans can.

Of course, there will be times when you’ll regret splurging on what you spent your precious money on. Just move on and treat them as learning experiences; don’t dwell on those instances. When you’re looking to spend in the future, just think of the satisfaction you’ll get from carrying bags full of new goodies. Admit it, the feeling is like no other.
