AHS Alumni Blaze a Trail of Excellence

There is no doubt that AHS is a great school, and with a great school comes great people, specifically, great students. However, you may be unaware of all the outstanding people who have attended AHS. From the Queen of Rock n’ Roll to medal-winning Olympians, AHS has been a home to many outstanding people.
1. Jason Chen
Jason Chen is a pop singer whose music videos and covers have gone viral on YouTube, some of which have over 10 million views. His most-viewed video, a music video for an original song, “Best Friend,” has over 18 million views.
2. Mirai Nagasu
Mirai Nagasu is an accomplished figure skater. She is a two-time Four Continents medalist, the champion of the Junior Grand Prix in 2007, a two-time World Junior medalist, and a five-time U.S. National Olympian.
3. Michael Anthony
For those of you who love rock music, you may have heard of Michael Anthony. Anthony is best known as the former bass player for the hard rock band, Van Halen, and is currently a bass player in the rock supergroup, Chickenfoot.
4. John Speraw
John Speraw is the head coach of the U.S. Men’s National Volleyball Team and UCLA’s volleyball team. He was the former coach of UC Irvine’s volleyball program, where he led the team to three national titles in six years. At the 2008 Beijing Olympics, Speraw was an assistant coach to the U.S. team, which won the gold medal.
5. Bruce Matthew
Bruce Matthew is a former football player who was an offensive lineman in the National Football League (NFL). He was a 14-time Pro Bowl selection, tying for the most in NFL history. Matthews was inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 2007.
6. Iris Wang
In 2016, the Rio Olympics attracted attention from all over the world. Who knew there was a former AHS student competing in it? Iris Wang is a badminton player who competed in the Rio Olympics and had the highest win record for a U.S. player in the Olympics.
7. Mark Tuan
AHS is peppered with K-pop fanatics, who most definitely know of Mark Tuan, a member of the popular South Korean boy group GOT7.
8. Renee Chen
Renee Chen is a Taiwanese singer and songwriter. Her debut album released in 2003 received critical acclaim. Thus, Warner Music, which was her record label at the time, continued to release singles from the album, attracting endorsements from Nike, Kiehl’s, and many others, including collaborations.
9. Mike Saxon
Mike Saxon is a former American football player, who had an 11-year career in the NFL. He played in Super Bowl XXVII as a member of the Dallas Cowboys against the Buffalo Bills. Saxon was drafted by the Detroit Lions in the 11th round of the 1984 NFL Draft.
10. Stevie Nicks
Stevie Nicks, widely respected as the Queen of Rock n’ Roll, is a multi-award winning singer-songwriter. She is best known for both her work with rock n’ roll band Fleetwood Mac and her extensive, multi-platinum solo career. Collectively, these have produced over 40 top-50 hits and sold over 140 million records, making her one of the best-selling music acts of all time.
With all this information, you should be proud to be an Apache! Offering a multitude of activities, AHS provides a foundation for successful future careers. After all, all the people mentioned above were once typical AHS students. So, as the saying goes, “Shoot for the moon. Even if you miss, you’ll land among the stars.”
