Student Spotlight: Gaby Shen
November 15, 2018
This month’s Student Spotlight is on Gaby Shen, a sophomore who can play more than five instruments for fun. Her hobbies include reading her favorite series and she also enjoys hanging out with her friends. Her love for music is really inspiring; let’s go see how music influences her life!
She picked up learning instruments at a young age, and from there, Gaby has learned up to nine instruments. Currently, she can play the piano, the violin, the flute, the recorder, the trumpet, the ukulele, the guitar, the xylophone, and the cajón. She started learning the piano at a young age, and thanks to her mom she was able to pick up the violin in 3rd grade; and along the way, Gaby picked up the other instruments for fun.
For her, music is something that influences her daily life. She believes that music “keeps you awake when you need to get work done, and sometimes it does the opposite.” Music is in every aspect of life, and Gaby really shows her passion for music, not just through the countless hours of time she puts into the instruments, but also her love for them.
Gaby’s natural talent for music allows her to continue learning how to play, as well as picking up new instruments. At first, she never planned on learning more instruments than the ones she already knew, but now, Gaby wants to learn how to play the drums and bass guitar. When asked about who inspires her to become a better musician, she answered by saying “Small YouTube musicians definitely inspire me to become a better musician because I want to be as good as they are.”
Gaby’s natural gift for music really is amazing! Stay tuned for next month’s Student Spotlight!
