Smorgasburg

If there’s anything that Los Angeles (LA) is famous for, it has to be its variety of delicious foods. And the best way to see the great range of food you can eat here in the City of Angels, is by going to Smorgasburg! Every Sunday in Downtown LA, on the five-acre site of the Alameda Produce Market close to the intersection of Center and Dock St., this market arrives to show all types of interesting food. It also has developed a reputation for being a place of shopping for all forms of arts and crafts, wellness, and more.
Smorgasburg began in Brooklyn, New York, on May 21, 2011. It was a spinoff of the Brooklyn Flea, another market that focused more on clothing than food but had been in charge of concessions for multiple venues since 2010. It quickly became the largest weekly open-air food market in the United States, attracting 20,000 to 30,000 people. It now has 100 vendors serving for them and has since launched thousands of businesses due to its popularity. In fact, The New York Times called Smorgasburg “the Woodstock of Eating.”
Due to the popularity of this market, Smorgasburg expanded to LA in 2016. Currently, Smorgasburg LA has 65 vendors that boast an amazing diversity to match the diversity of LA. If you want some dessert, you have options from macarons from Bumblecrumpets to shaved ice, combined with mochi as provided by Chichi Dango. Or, if you’re looking to have a meatier bite, there are the incredible creations from Shrimp Daddy or the unique combinations from Baohaus — who serve hotdogs with bao buns! There are so many more options available that this article can’t fit them all in!
Smorgasburg also boasts a variety of goods outside of food. This includes books from Brown Bag Books, traditional African baskets from Baobab Collective, or even skateboards from Choncordia Skateboards. There really is no limit to what you can find here at this awesome market.
So, if you have some free time on a Sunday, why not check out Smorgasburg? It’s not only a place of great food, great items, and great fun, but also a place to make new, great memories.
