What Does Graphology Say About You?

Kaitlyn Liao, Staff Writer

Have you ever heard of graphology?

gra·phol·o·gy (gră-fŏl′ə-jē) n. The study of handwriting.

It has been proven that your handwriting can show more than 5,000 different personality traits. Graphology is used in many different disciplines, but it is most commonly seen in the police world. Sometimes, detectives will take a note, classified as evidence, to learn certain things about the criminal they are investigating. Now, take out a pencil, write down a sentence, and write your signature. Write it how you normally would. Next, read below to see if the following traits in your handwriting hold similar characteristics of your personality

Size

Large letters: If your letters are on the larger side, it show that you are open minded, and you’re not afraid of commitment. You typically say what’s on your mind as you are quite outspoken. You are probably outgoing and people-oriented. Many celebrities have large handwriting, so it also suggests that you are extroverted and like the limelight.

Small Letters: On the other hand, if you have a small font size, you tend to be more shy or withdrawn. You are more studious, reliable, and focused. When you make a goal you persevere to meet it. You’re also probably a good listener and provide great support for friends and family. Many scientists, technicians, lawyers, accountants, and writers’ are often seen with small handwriting.

Average letters: If your handwriting is somewhere in between you probably have average sized letters. Having average sized letters, you hold similar qualities of people with large and small letter handwriting size. You are well-adjusted and adaptable. You have a high tolerance, but you can sometimes be a little awkward.

Slanting

No Slant: Having no slant in your writing shows that you are logical and practical. You don’t let your emotions get the best of you. You are a good listener and that would make you a very supportive friend.

Slant to the Right: If your handwriting slants to the rights, the sky’s the limit. You are open to new ideas and experiences. Although, your emotions tend to rule over your thinking, and you are sometimes prone to mood swings.

Slant to the Left: A slant to the left shows that you tend to hold back and be a little more conservative, but you love to work behind the scenes and manage group projects. Keep in mind, if you are right handed, your writing is naturally supposed to slant a little to the right (or not at all). If it slants to the left, you were probably trained to write like that, or shows that you are rebellious.

Shape of Letters

Rounded Letters: Rounded letters show that you are creative and artistic. You tend to think outside the box, and you are not afraid to step out of your comfort zone.

Pointed Letters: If your handwriting looks like barbed wire, you probably display aggressiveness and intensity, but you are also intelligent and very curious.

Connected Letters: You are logical, systematic, and make careful decisions. You also like to go with the flow, so you tend to be scared to go outside of your comfort zone.

Dotting your “i”:

No dot or right above the “I”: This shows that you are detail oriented, organized, and emphatic over what you say or do.

Slashed dot over the  “I”: If you dot your “I”s looks more like a slash, it means you are overly self-critical. You probably don’t have a lot of patience for inadequacy and learn from your mistakes.

Circle you “I”: If the dot over your “I” is in the shape of a circle, then it depicts that you are creative and visionary, but you can also be child-like and immature.

Crossing your “T”

Very top of “T”: If your lowercase “T”s are crossed at the very top of the T, then you are ambitious, optimistic, and have good self-esteem.

Right in the MIddle: Crossing your “T”s in the middle means you’re confident and feel comfortable in your own skin.

Long Crosses VS. Short Crosses: If you cross your “T”s with a long line it means you are determined and enthusiastic. However, you tend to be stubborn and have a hard time letting things go. On the other hand, crossing your “T”s with short lines show you tend to be lazy and have a lack of determination.

Open VS. Closed “O”

Open: Having an open “O” means you are talkative, social, able to express your feelings, but still have some a little secrecy.

Close: If you write closed “O”s you are probably more on the private and conservative side. You limit to sharing your private feelings to the closest people you know, and even then you might still hold back some information.

Pressure:

Heavy Pressure: Writing really dark or with a lot of pressure, probably means that you are good with commitment and taking things seriously. However, you can sometimes be uptight and react quickly to criticism.

Light Pressure: If your handwriting is really light, you tend to be on the sensitive side and show empathy to people. You are also probably more carefree with the way you hold yourself. You like to be flexible with your time and relationships.

Signature:

Illegible: It means you are very private, or hard to read or understand. (Or you are just lazy to write out your full name in cursive)

Legible/Somewhat Legible: You are confident and comfortable in your own skin; you don’t need to pretend you’re something that you are not.

Now that you know your writer-scopes and a little more about yourself, have you learned the importance of graphology? Just know to never change your handwriting because it is part of what makes you, you.
