Metro Green Line Reopens

Getting to LAX is such a nightmare. With millions of people from all over Southern California coming and going through this airport, traffic around there is some of the worst in the entire world. A traveler desperate to reach his or her flight will have no other options but to wait in that chaos in order to just get to the airport. There used to be another alternative to get to the airport which was to ride the Metro train through the green line. The Metro green line helped alleviate car traffic by sending travelers from their nearest train stop to a block from the airport where they could take a shuttle directly to the front entrance for just $1.75. This train service greatly reduced the number of people using the road to get to the airport while being a quicker alternative for the travelers to use.

Then recently, the Metro greenline closed for renovation and expansion. Metro planned for expansion by connecting the green line to other existing railways to create the Crenshaw/LAX line that will reach a longer distance. This new Crenshaw/LAX line will start at the Aviation/LAX stop, the one closest to the airport, and it will reach more cities along the coast and will have eight new stations. After this project, more people will have direct and easy travel to LAX. While this project is still under construction, travelers will be redirected from the Aviation/LAX stop to the Hawthorne/Lennox stop where the shuttle bus will have to drive a longer distance to the airport and will have to wait through the heavy traffic. Traffic has grown terrible again, and people hope that the stations there can open soon.

Fortunately, while this project is still progressing, Metro announced that five existing stations on the green line near the airport, including the Aviation/LAX line, will open again for the people to use. The opening of these stations is way ahead of schedule because they were supposed to open when the whole Crenshaw/LAX line is completed and open. Metro planned to have the Crenshaw/LAX line completed and open around fall 2019. These five stations reopened a year early, but travelers are now happy to have this alternative back and can easily travel to the airport again. Metro has a new project in mind that after the Crenshaw/LAX line is completed and the whole green line is reopened, more stations will be added in and around the airport. Metro plans to build above ground railways that can send people on electric trains directly into the airport. This project will start in 2019 and will probably be completed in 2023.
