Black Panther

Even after many of its movies were released last year, such as Thor: Ragnarok, Spider-Man: Homecoming, Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2, and Logan, Marvel Entertainment still has more in store for its fans. Many people may have heard of Marvel’s upcoming film release, Black Panther. Fans have been anticipating this movie’s release for a while since Marvel announced its production in 2014. However, they will not have to wait for much longer as Marvel scheduled its release date to be on Feb. 16. Although the movie is extremely popular among fans and on social media, some still may not know about the movie’s superhero, Black Panther, or its general synopsis.

Black Panther is the 18th movie to be released from the Marvel Universe. Based on the titular character who first appeared in comics released by Marvel Comics in 1966, Black Panther traces events surrounding T’Challa, Black Panther’s real name, after he returns home to his kingdom in a fictional African country called Wakanda. Some may find this character familiar since he first appeared in the 2016 Marvel movie, Captain America: Civil War. The events in Civil War, in which T’Challa’s father was assassinated, lead up to T’Challa returning to his kingdom to take his father’s place as Wakandan leader. However, when he arrives home, he faces old enemies. As a result, he must team up with his allies, CIA agent Everett K. Ross and the members of Wakanda’s all-female force called Dora Milaje.

Fans of Black Panther have been especially ecstatic to see its talented cast, which is comprised of mostly African and African-American actors and actresses. This makes it the most radical Marvel movie to date to do so. The cast includes Chadwick Boseman as T’Challa; Michael B. Jordan as the movie’s main villain Erik Killmonger; Lupita Nyong’o as Nakia, a Dora Milaje member; Danai Gurira as Okoye, the head of Dora Milaje; Martin Freeman as Everett K. Ross;and Angela Bassett as Ramonda, T’Challa’s mother. Black Panther is directed by Ryan Coogler and had been developed since 2014.

Although the movie has not been released to the general public yet, critics have been rating it favorably. It recently received an average 100% rating on Rotten Tomatoes from 51 critics, which is a notable achievement. Fans who are not able to watch Black Panther yet can listen to songs from the soundtrack inspired by it. Co-produced by Kendrick Lamar and Top Dawg Entertainment founder Anthony Tiffith, the soundtrack features various artists like SZA and The Weeknd. It is the first Marvel soundtrack to have songs created specifically for the movie. The movie and soundtrack are both highly anticipated by dedicated Marvel fans, and even casual fans should watch Black Panther if they have the chance.
