NFL Injuries Of Week Six

Over 25 injuries took place in Week 6 of the NFL season ranging from minimal sprains and concussions to multiple season-ending injuries. Beginning with one of the most dominant and consistent quarterbacks in the league, Aaron Rodgers from the Green Bay Packers suffered a broken collarbone after taking a severe hit from linebacker Anthony Barr from the Minnesota Vikings. Rodgers was immediately replaced by teammate/quarterback Brett Hundley for the remainder of the game. According to ESPN’s website, Rodgers was declared “questionable to return” and could possibly “miss the rest of the season.” On the following Monday, Oct. 16, Packers coach Mike McCarthy released further information on Rodgers’ injury (a “broken right clavicle”) and also announced that Rodger’s season “potentially could be over”. Rodgers is currently recovering from his successful surgery that took place on Thursday, Oct. 19, but nonetheless, the Packers have placed Rodgers on the injured reserve list. Presumably, it has been recently reported that Rodgers could return to the field in just over eight weeks. The Packers have made playoffs every season since 2009, and without Rodgers for the presumed eight weeks, his team will undoubtedly see a struggle in this season’s attempt.

Wide receiver Tyreek Hill and running back Charcandrick West from the Kansas City Chiefs had been, as announced by NBC Sports’ website, “both evaluated for concussions”. After taking a hard impact during a punt return in the fourth quarter, Hill was quickly exited out of the game. Fortunately, on Wednesday, Oct. 18, Hill was cleared of any potential concussion. West, however, was less fortunate and took a severely flagrant hit by free safety Mike Mitchell from the Pittsburgh Steelers, which resulted in a concussion. The hit was so unnecessary and egregious that Mitchell was fined “$48,620,” according to NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport. The most recent news of West’s injury was four days ago where he was “ruled out for Thursday’s game [Oct. 19] against the [Oakland] Raiders,” according to CBS Sports’ website.

Quarterback Jameis Winston from the Tampa Bay Buccaneers suffered an AC joint sprain in his shoulder during a game against the Arizona Cardinals. AC joint sprains are a fairly common injury in the NFL that often result in long recoveries. Winston, however, claims, “I’ve come out of a game before, but I don’t think I’ve ever missed a game.” This injury could possibly set Winston back, and perhaps even make his claim of never “miss[ing] a game” incorrect. When questioned about this possibility, Winston notes,“I don’t think I’m going to miss a game.” Furthermore, just two days ago on Friday, Oct. 20, head coach Dirk Koetter of the Buccaneers announced that Winston will be starting in Sunday’s game, Oct. 22, against the Buffalo Bills.

Although various injuries had taken place during Week 6 of the season, Week 7 will shortly follow on Sunday, Oct. 22, where we may potentially see similar injuries to Week 6. These injuries are not so short-lived, as we will see more soon.
