Lunchtime at the Rally Court on Sept. 26 was crowded with people eagerly browsing through the diverse stands set up in the area. Arcadia High School (AHS) has organized Clubs Day every year to introduce the range of opportunities offered to its students.
With over 70 clubs available, AHS provides far more experiences than many other schools. Its abundance of options means that every student can find a group that matches their interests or simply be able to try out an activity for fun.
“I think that a lot of kids our age don’t always get the chance to do things like this,” said freshman Shresta Andem, “so I definitely appreciate getting to experience so much at AHS.”
In the weeks before, AHS students had already begun to await the event, discussing the clubs they hoped to get a look at and possibly sign up for.
“I was really looking forward to joining all the new clubs. Clubs Day is a great way to help find the perfect fit for you,” said freshman Anza Nguyen.
Ranging from academic topics to associations formed out of passion for a particular cause, there were plenty of clubs to choose from. Students could sign up for groups like Chess Club, Book Club, or The Writer’s Den. There were also more knowledge-based organizations such as Sports Analytics, Running Theory, Astrophysics, and Med Law. Others were aimed towards benefiting humanity, like the Hope Can Cure Cancer Club and Healthy Eating Initiative.
“AHS has plenty of electives, but there aren’t always classes on the things we’re enthusiastic about. A lot of us decided to create our own clubs, which means that everyone can find something they’re interested in,” stated the Ancient Civilizations and Mythology Club Co-President junior Zoey Zhou.
Culture was also a big part of this year’s Clubs Day, with numerous groups celebrating the unique backgrounds represented at AHS. There were clubs like the Taiwanese Appreciation Club, Hindu YUVA, and Spanish Club.
For fun and hobbies, there were organizations such as Game and Anime, Girl Up, and Art Club. Volunteering and leadership skills were prominent aspects of many clubs, as well, like LEO Club.
The clubs had all worked very hard in their preparations, and their efforts were easy to see. Posters and displays were beautifully created, neat, and organized, attracting and amazing throngs of people. In particular, the creative costumes, like the LEO lion and Game and Anime figures, stood out with their detailed decorations and themes, adding even more excitement to the day.
In all, this year’s Clubs Day was a huge success, encouraging students to get involved in the AHS community.
“It definitely helped promote what we’re all passionate about, bringing in a lot of people and getting them to try new things,” said French Club Secretary senior Samantha Luan.
