ASB hosted iHeartRadio campus takeover during lunch in the Rally Court on Apr. 2. DJ Triple XL came on behalf of @1027KIISFM. The performance started off with Dominique Llie, a recording artist. He sang “Girls Just Wanna Have Fun” by Cyndi Lauper and interacted with the audience. The person with the loudest voice in the crowd won a blue speaker and free shirts.
DJ Triple XL announced the next singer, Stefan Benz, and an interesting fact about him was that he tasted hot Cheetos for the first time last year thanks to DJ Triple XL. Then, the performer introduced himself; he is originally from South Africa and has appeared on American Idol. He opened the stage with “Love” by Keyshia Cole.
“As a musician myself, I love going to concerts and finding new artists. This was by far one of the best concert experiences, and the best part was it was free,” said junior Andreo Sagayaraj. “I absolutely loved Stefan’s music and will definitely listen to all of his songs.”
After the song ended, the crew started to advertise the Wango Tango concert on May 10. Featuring Doja Cat, Megan Trainor, David Guette and Gwen Stefani, the tickets were sold during the performance, general admission for $180 and VIP for $290. The crew gave students the opportunity to win up to 20 free tickets for the concert. DJ Triple XL also offered to pay for prom for some of the seniors, but only if they gave their undivided attention and energy towards the show. The crew also provided mini gifts throughout the performances for students to enjoy.
Then Benz sang an original song “Too Far,” followed by a snippet of his new song “Wasted My Days.” The final song that Benz sang was “Baby” by Justin Bieber. Students were encouraged to come up to the stage and sing along.
“This was such a fun experience, and, as a senior, the best way to just relieve stress while creating new memories before I graduate,” said ASB Secretary senior Sergio Alcazar. “My favorite was ‘Wasted My Days,’ because we got to come up on stage and jam to the music.”
