A big part of what makes Instagram unique is its ability to let users customize their profile however they want. Through story highlights, color matching, and using different camera layouts, anyone can transform their Instagram page into something that represents their personality.
Story Highlights
Story highlights allow users to keep their favorite uploaded stories on their profile for everyone to view. To add one, click the add button on the top right hand corner of the profile and click story highlight. Select the stories you want to add and choose the title. The fonts of your titles can even be changed through the app Fonts. For people with multiple highlights, changing the cover to match each can really add to the overall look of the profile page. Apps like Pinterest offer a great variety of aesthetic story highlight covers depending on how you want them to look. Users are also able to choose a cover from their photo album or from the highlight itself.
Posts
In order to match the overall vibe of your profile, your posts should also conform with those ideals. For example, if all your story highlight covers and profile picture are light brown, then your posts should have a similar color scheme. This gives your page a sense of balance and visual appeal as the colors harmonize cohesively together.
“Make sure to follow a corresponding color scheme between highlights, profile picture, and posts,” says freshman Britney Chau, who has an aesthetic Instagram account. “Definitely use digital cameras for posts and stories. I personally use the Samsung one!”
Stories
When posting stories, the first step is to use the correct camera for the correct aesthetic. For example, beach photos with vibrant colors are best when using digital cameras to give a vintage effect. On the contrary, photos taken at night can be done with just a regular iPhone camera by adjusting the lighting to be slightly darker to really highlight the subject. Another great app for eye-catching photos is Dazz Cam, which allows users to choose a digital camera-like filter over the picture.

Stories can also be customized to feature multiple photos at once. Using the “Create” or “Layout” tool on Instagram, users can add in more than one photo on one single story. The “Create” tool gives a background of any color of your choice while the “Layout” tool formats the photos to be perfectly aligned. Stories also have the option of adding location, music, GIFs, Instagram Frames, questions, personal avatars, polls, hashtags, countdowns, and text. Often, putting location and music can really enhance the vibe and contribute to the overall feeling of the story.

Consistency and Color Matching
To keep a strong Instagram page, consistency is key. However, that doesn’t mean everything has to be a similar color. As long as the general vibe is kept by mixing together different textures and patterns, your page will spring to life. Creating a moodboard is a great way to get those creative juices flowing and can undoubtedly help with visualizing your aesthetic.
“I wanted to make my Instagram cat themed because the only posts I have up right now are of my cat and photos of a cat cafe,” said freshman Katie Chen. “I picked my profile picture and covers for my highlights based on the colors in the photos so they look nice together.”

Basing your page around a theme is of utmost importance. Themes can be anything from lifestyle and fashion to food and travel. Whatever the theme may be, stick to it and build upon your profile to match that. Remember, being consistent will attract viewers and produce a favorable outcome!

Instagram is a creative app, where users can express themselves through what they post and give the world a view of their life. Using these tips and tricks, you can transform your Instagram profile into a fun and aesthetically pleasing page that reflects your personality.
