With winter break coming up, students have been binging as a way of destressing from the pressure of finals. They often turn to Netflix or other streaming services to binge watch their favorite shows.
There are thousands of TV shows that premiere worldwide. Some include comedy shows that help alleviate any negativity or stress with continuous humor, and some get people on the edge of their seats and waiting for what’s to come next. A few to simply list off include Outer Banks, a group of teenagers searching for the infamous gold treasure, or for a more light-hearted show to indulge in, you can turn your screen to Emily in Paris. It’s a humorous and cheery show that explores the main character’s adventure throughout France. But moving on, let’s tune into what AHS students are currently watching.
“Right now, I’m watching the show called Gossip Girl,” said sophomore Kendra Lac. “I really like the show because I find the drama that they create really interesting and the foreshadowing is something I always find so riveting.”
Gossip Girl is a quite compelling show according to students. It explores life through various high school students living in New York who all attend the same school and are all involved in the drama that is currently happening. It is funny at times, especially when characters get into drama which essentially indulge their viewers while they are watching.
Another show that has been popular lately is Abbott Elementary, a show that explores the lives and events of various elementary school teachers and the memories they create along the way. It also gives a realistic representation of what underfunded public schools look like on the inside. It gives an insightful lesson on how involved teachers are within their school community and the power of coming together to solve issues within the school day. Essentially, it primarily focuses on alleviating tension with humorous puns throughout the show.
“In my free time, I usually watch Abbott Elementary”, said senior Ady Wong. “I find it very realistic almost and I think it gives and shows the real struggles elementary teachers face but in a comedic and relieving way”.
Throughout AHS, numerous students are binging either shows that are older, like from the 2000s, yet still renowned today. Or they also indulge in recently produced shows, such as Abbott Elementary, that are a comedic relief for students. As finals approach sooner rather than later, and as winter break slowly advances towards the school year, shows such as these can provide an escape but can also be an experience you share with your loved ones like friends and family. So, even if you’re searching for a revisit back in time to watch classic TV shows, or you might wait weekly for new episodes to come on for a new show, there will always be something for you and your friends and family to watch and enjoy!
