As the year comes to a close, Arcadia High School students have been blowing off some steam before finals by participating in the many activities ASB has set up for the last spirit week of the year.
For the first day of spirit week, ASB hosted Polar Express Monday, where students could dress up in comfy clothing and bring stuffed animals to school. During lunch, there was a cereal eating competition in the quad, along with resolution writing, inspired by the movie Polar Express.
“My favorite spirit week activity was definitely the Polar Express day since I got to wear comfy clothes. I’m not sure if it was because it was my first time participating in spirit week activities, but I really enjoyed it,” said freshman Callahan Tsai.
Day two of spirit week was a throwback to previous holiday spirit weeks: All I Want Tuesday. Students dressed up as their type, which was a fun activity for many students.
“I had a great time dressing up for Tuesday; I initially wasn’t going to because I don’t really follow spirit week, but I thought my outfit was fire. I wore a tank top with cargo pants,” said junior Terrence Wu.
“Baby, It’s Cold Outside” Wednesday had students wearing warmer clothes, such as snow wear, like skiing and snowboarding pants, or puffer jackets. ASB also held a gingerbread house contest during lunch, giving students a holiday themed change of pace in their day. While many students enjoyed the event, some were underwhelmed as it wasn’t a huge change of pace from their normal outfits.
“I did like spirit week, but I thought Wednesday was kind of boring, since I normally wear warm clothes anyways. I really wanted to see Disney day like last year,” said junior Clinton Truong.
Santa’s Showdown Thursday had students wear different attire based on their grade level, with freshmen dressing as elves, sophomores as deer, juniors as snowmen, and seniors as Santa Claus.
“I honestly had a fun time on Thursday dressing up as a deer; it was pretty fun. I wore antlers and a deer hoodie,” said sophomore Aviral Saxena.
To wrap up the week, ASB’s Frosty Friday had all students dressing up in all kinds of holiday gear. ASB also set up a station to make DIY marshmallow snowmen and star crowns, as well as a line to talk with Santa, and a photo booth for students in the Rally Court during lunch.
“I think the best part of spirit week was Frosty Friday, since I could dress up in literally any holiday outfit, but more importantly, the amazing Santa was there,” said junior Simon Huber.
All in all, lots of students participated in this year’s holiday spirit week, fostering school spirit, and being an easy outlet to let students relax before their finals.
