To kick off the winter season, the freshman ASB council hosted their very first freshman-only bonding event called First Snowfall on Dec 4. This event included cookies and ornaments for decorating and was held in the Rally Court.
In order to receive cookies, all freshmen had to head over to the tent in front of the Rally Court’s ramp and get checked in by two of the ASB members. Students were able to get checked in by typing their ID number or sliding it into the card reader.
After getting checked in, students were then able to walk towards the cookie decorating stations. In the first station, students were then given a plate and a sugar cookie. Students then were able to choose one frosting and one sprinkle. Students had a wide variety of frosting colors to choose from––pink, blue, green, white, and more. Students also had a very large variety of sprinkles to pick from, with the most popular sprinkles being unicorns, red stars, and green sparkles.
“For decorating my cookie, I used blue and green frosting. For the base, I used the blue and green frostings to create an ombre effect and around the whole cookie I alternated blue and green swirl flowers,” said freshmen Chloe Siong. “On top was where I put different colored sprinkles so the cookie wouldn’t look too plain with just blue and green.”
As students were decorating or eating their cookies, there was an ornament station where freshmen could pick up an ornament and decorate it. Some of the tables had acrylic markers to use on the ornaments.
“For my ornament I decorated it using colors like blue, white, red, black, yellow, and green. I basically used any of the colors that were on the table,” said freshman Margaret Garcia. “My main idea was to match with my friend Iris Ergenc, and she was going to draw Snoopy, while I was going to draw Snoopy’s red house. Since it’s [the] Christmas [season] we both added Christmas lights and a Santa hat on our drawings.”
Students who participated in decorating an ornament could enter it into a contest held at the end of the event to win a prize of more cookies. Ultimately, three winners were announced: freshman Sophia Wei got 3rd place, freshman Tvisha Venkat got 2nd place, and freshman Angela Kim got 1st place.
“We planned this event at our weekly freshmen council meetings on Wednesday,” said freshman ASB President Allison Chen. “We’ve been working on planning this event for about 2 months and we’re so proud of the outcome and how many people showed up.”
As the event came to a close, the ASB council started to clean up their set up by collecting the acrylic markers from students and clearing out the tables where cookies and ornaments were set up at.
“Our intent in hosting this activity was for the freshmans to bond with each other and have fun,” said freshmen ASB secretary Bella Wang. “Since this was our first bonding event ever, we really wanted this to be successful and for everyone to enjoy it.”
