To Mrs. DeSurra, My Favorite English Teacher,
Ever since I took my seat in room C109, I knew that Mrs. DeSurra was going to have a positive impact on my future. Throughout my journey at Arcadia High School (AHS), I’ve occasionally had my fair share of unpleasant experiences with people that had a negative effect on my life. Yet, in Mrs. DeSurra’s class, I realized that a very positive person like her would be a great addition to my future.
In her English class, we wouldn’t just learn the basics and fundamentals of what it takes to be a good writer. But we would also learn how to think “outside the box” in more ways than one. What specifically stood out the most to me in her class is the way she would connect to her students on a very personal level where we could feel safe yet appropriately accommodated for when we had any questions or concerns.
Even with the fact that Mrs. DeSurra was always sincere and wholehearted when it came to assisting students, she would give insightful feedback on essays and assignments that further helped us improve our writing skills and finalize pieces to our max abilities.
Along with her extensive teaching experience and skills, Mrs. DeSurra always made sure to achieve her mission in making myself and others reach our full potential, even if we felt like we wanted to give up. Fortunately, with Mrs. DeSurra’s constant uplifting and encouraging advice she would provide us, she pushed me as a writer to write in a different way that ultimately brought my skills to their maximum potential. Now, I could perform to the best of my ability in other writing opportunities, such as writing for The Arcadia Quill.
I still utilize those analytical skills and self-confidence to benefit my writing pieces. With the development of these skills, like approaching challenges with different perspectives, I’m able to write in a more unique style that leaves a more memorable mark on individuals who read my material. I also believe that thanks to Mrs. DeSurra’s impact, I’m able to more effectively represent and organize my creativity within my writing that also reflects my authenticity.
Thank you for the numerous things and skills you have taught me throughout my junior year Mrs. Desurra, and I will forever be grateful for everything you have provided for me and the rest of the students who had the chance to be in your class.
