When I first decided on my classes for senior year, I never would have thought that I would have chosen Concert Choir as one of them, or even Chanteurs. I had been in Show Choir, which was the choir in elementary school that I joined because of my interest in singing, but it completely slipped my mind during high school. I had never thought of continuing to pursue it until my senior year of high school, which is when I put Choir down as one of my electives. As I was doing registration for senior year, I found out that I had a schedule conflict with my first period. I found out that I would have to choose only one of the two electives, one of them being The Quill as my first period class. Devastated, I realized that I couldn’t give up either one, so I ended up talking to my choir teacher about a late audition for Chanteurs. To my surprise, I got in.
Not knowing what to expect, I went through the first week of school. As a first year member, I hardly knew anyone except a few people. Naturally, I was nervous and worried that I wouldn’t get along with anyone, and I had made the wrong decision. However, now four months in, I’ve made so many new friends that I wouldn’t have had I never chosen this class. I think I realized it the first few weeks of school, but it really hit me after the first concert of this school year.
When I first found out that I didn’t make it into the extracurricular I wanted to get into, I thought it was the end of the world. But now, I think it was one of the best decisions I’ve ever made, and I’m so grateful that I had the chance to take this class. Being in Chanteurs, I feel like we all have a special bond with one another that’s unbreakable. Walking into room MB3, you’re immediately greeted by a supportive and encouraging environment. Entering the Choir room everyday instantly brings a smile to my face. In the mix of sopranos, altos, tenors, and basses, our voices each bring a different sound that creates that perfect harmony. I’ve loved how we’ve cared for each other, celebrated each others’ birthdays, and always supported one another; you guys are truly my second family. In our close knit class, we are each different in our own unique ways but our shared interest in singing is what brings us together.
Thank you, Chanteurs for giving me a reason to smile and making me forget about my worries temporarily. Thank you for giving me a reason to keep going when I was at my lowest. Thank you for making me realize my passion for singing, I’d never trade the world to sing with anyone else. Thank you for singing karaoke with me during the bus rides back to school; I’ll miss singing absolute bangers with you guys. Thank you, Chanteurs for everything; I’ll miss you so incredibly much at the end of the school year.
