Anime may be a stranger to some, but it may also be a comfort to others. To some, it may just be another form of entertainment. To others, it may be seen as a cartoon, something for children. To some, it may also be an escape from reality. To others, it’s the source of their creativity, their world.
I’ve had anime in my memory ever since I started remembering things, meaning, I’ve probably been watching anime for over nine years now. I don’t quite remember my very first anime, since I’ve watched too many to count. From the old classics to the modern trends; from Death Note to Spy x Family; from the underrated animes to the widely-known animes; from Moriarty the Patriot to Jujutsu Kaisen, I can barely keep a list of them.
Anime has been with me since elementary school and probably even before. Now, even in high school, I’m still watching anime. There are animes such as Case Closed, which came out in 1996 and is still currently updating with over 1,100+ episodes. There are animes such as Inuyashiki Last Hero, which is a combination of both 2D and 3D art styles. I have watched whatever I found interesting or non-interesting. If it was non-interesting, I would give it a few episodes before deciding to either continue it or ultimately drop the anime.
The imagination within anime can not be limited. It’s basically impossible. There is anime that explores political revolutions that sacrifice the heroes of the story to validate peace in humanity, such as Code Geass. There are anime that explore the survival of a society in a world without its place, such as Attack on Titan, Heavenly Delusion, and The Promised Neverland. There are anime that explore the good and evil of humans from life to the afterlife, such as Death Parade, Hell Girl, and Another. These are all examples of interesting plots within the world of anime. They also contain examples of unique characters with unique backstories that lead to their unique personalities. What will they do in the specific world they’re in? What can they do?
Anime takes stories, adds voices to them, gives them a visual appearance, and allows them to move. It’s as if seeing a whole other world that’s within your screen.
To me, anime is a world of creativity, a world of imagination, a world of fictional stories to be told, heard, and seen.
Thank you anime, for being my escape from reality.
