For the third year in a row, Arcadia Unified School District (AUSD) ranks in the top 1% across American school districts according to Niche, an American company that runs a ranking and review site on education. Niche develops their rankings based on public data sets and millions of reviews. Their data scientists then analyze this data as well as user opinions to develop a grade and ranking of a district or school. These rankings take into account aspects ranging from academics to teacher quality.
Academic excellence is something recognized in many schools; however, AUSD sets itself apart with the ability to engage with its many academic and media organizations such as Physics Team or Apache News. They also set themselves apart with the ability to build relationships with educators.
“My math teacher specifically lectures and explains very well. He goes in-depth on topics and the reasoning for them, rather than just going over formulas,” said freshman Thomas Chung.
From categories like Academics, College Prep, Teachers, Administration, Clubs & Activities, and Resources & Facilities, AUSD covers many aspects of the Niche criteria when it comes to supporting students’ academic development and growth.
For a school district to be constantly praised and ranked highly, it must also showcase involvement from the community. The students in AUSD have educators who make learning experiences that align with the educational standards. It is common for parents and even students to volunteer at the district events. Many teachers even advise clubs, showcasing a connection with students beyond the classroom.
“It’s not that surprising, but awesome,” said Mr. Craig Monden, a biology teacher at Arcadia High School (AHS). “We have a good district that has a good family support system. Our schools have an incredible set of counselors as well as a unique wellness center that takes care of student emotional needs. We also have incredible professionals at this school that satisfy our students’ academic needs.”
The emphasis AUSD, specifically AHS, places on college preparation also makes a positive impact on students aiming for four-year colleges or universities. The school offers many AP and honors
classes, as well as academic teams such as Science Olympiad or Academic Decathlon.
“I’m not that shocked that we ranked high on the academic side of things as basically everyone I know is taking some sort of AP or honors course,” said freshman Daniel Chen.
AHS also offers resources such as the College and Career Center, which hosts many college visits during lunch as well as after school. Additionally, AUSD presents many opportunities, including sports, organizations, and AP courses that support students in their journey to success.
AUSD’s consistent rankings in the top 1% of United States school districts reflects not only academic achievement and excellence, but dedication to cooperation and support with its students.
