It’s Halloween season, which means it’s time to start thinking about what to dress up as. Every year there are the common costumes: angels, witches, fairies, and so much more. Though these costumes aren’t bad, they’re certainly very common on Halloween. The holiday is the one time of the year where anyone can dress up as anything without judgment, so why not wear something special? Here are some creative costumes that can inspire you for Halloween.
The first costume is something that works great with duos: Glinda and Elphaba. With the new movie adaptation of Wicked coming out on Nov. 22, these two witches are a duo costume that needs to be seen this Halloween.
Elphaba is the main protagonist in the Wicked musical and the upcoming movie. She was known as the Wicked Witch of The West in the 1939 film The Wonderful Wizard of Oz. For this costume any black dress could work. For example this Forever 21 dress or this Amazon one. For her hat, any black witch hat would work. If you don’t want to paint yourself green that’s fine, another alternative could be wearing green stockings or gloves.
Glinda is known as the The Good Witch of The South in The Wonderful Wizard of Oz, but in the musical Wicked, she is known for her popularity and ambition. For her costume, any short pink dress, but a puffy one works best. This Amazon dress is a good fit, but if you want a slightly cheaper alternative this dress also works too. For her crown, this Amazon one works well, but any pearl headband like this can work. For accessories, you can buy any type of bubble wand at the dollar store and wear any kind of jewelry you have.
Dressing up as a children’s book character can be super creative and look awesome if done right. The character I’m talking about is a book character that most people forget, the Rainbow Fish! The Rainbow Fish is a character from the book “The Rainbow Fish” by Marcus Pfister. The book is about a beautiful fish who learns to share its beauty with everyone else. For this costume any shiny white top could work. This could be a shiny crop top or a metallic white shirt. For the skirt, anything with sequins on would be perfect. If you want to add more accessories to your outfit you could always wear these rainbow fish earrings on Amazon, or hold around the book as a prop.
The two iconic characters from “Subway Surfers”, Jake and Tricky, is another duo costume that works perfectly for last minute costumes. These two characters wear clothes that most people have in their closets, so it should be a lot easier to dress up as.
For Jake, you’re going to need to have a white hoodie or jacket. Inside your white hoodie could be any plain red shirt. On top of the hood is going to be a light blue jacket; this could be denim or a sleeveless denim jacket. Just remember that this jacket is on top of a hoodie, so it’s going to have to be a little loose or big. The pants should be blue jeans. For accessories you should use a red hat or a red baseball cap. If you want to add something extra, you can carry a prop, like a fake spray paint can.
For Tricky, you’re going to need a plain white tank top, like this Forever 21 one or this Amazon top. For the red part above Tricky’s jeans, you can use red boyshorts or any red spandex. Baggy jeans work best for her pants. Now, for her accessories, you need to have a red beanie, black glasses, and an empty spray bottle to finish the look.
The last costume is a fun play on words: kiss and tell. For this costume you’ll need to have a top that looks like a newspaper like this Amazon one or this long sleeve one. Next, you’ll have to get a sheet of white paper, put on some red lipstick, and make marks on the paper by pressing your lips onto paper. This is so you can cut out the lipstick marks from the paper and tape it onto the shirt. For the bottom, any red skirt or jeans would work. For accessories a newspaper bag works or a regular tote bag (for the tote bag, you can stick paper cutouts of your lipstick marks onto the bag). If you want to add more into this costume, you can wear white stockings (if you decide to wear a red skirt) and wear any type of glasses, like these heart glasses. If you’re comfortable with it, you can also put red lipstick on and get a clear sheet of plastic wrap, press it on your lips, and press the plastic wrap on other parts of your body.

“I’m dressing up as Little Red Riding Hood. I decided to dress up as her because I really loved reading the fairytale when I was younger, plus I already own a red cape,” said freshman Aisha Syed. “For this costume I’m planning on wearing black tights underneath a red and white skirt. For the top I’m gonna wear a black corset and of course her iconic red cape. I’ve decided to also bring a basket filled with cookies, just like the sweet goods she had when going to her Granny’s house.”
Sophomore Jaleen Terre decided to put on a silly costume to make others laugh.
“My friends and I were thinking about Art the Clown [from the horror franchise series the “Terrible”] but we were also thinking of settling on something funny and unexpected, like a gorilla. I’m thinking about choosing this costume because we always have a better time dressing up as something that makes us and others laugh when we go out. Plus isn’t Halloween all about dressing up as something most people don’t expect?” said Terre.
Every Halloween costume is unique in its own way, and that’s the fun in dressing up on Halloween. Now with all these ideas on what to be for Halloween, hopefully you aren’t stuck on trying to find a creative costume.
