Students dress up and participate in events for the whole week as they countdown for Arcadia High School’s (AHS) Homecoming game and dance. To celebrate the Homecoming Dance on Oct. 12, ASB organized a week of creative themes and activities before it to get students excited. Each day featured events, including spirit days and activities.
Monday: Mini Monday
Students embraced their inner child by wearing outfits from their childhood, showcasing everything from elementary and middle school shirts to recreating cherished old photos. During lunch at the Rally Court, students used uncooked pasta and beads to create necklaces, replicating activities elementary students would do. Students also made colorful bracelets out of beads and pasta while dressed up as their younger self for Mini Monday.
Tuesday: Twin Tuesday
Seniors Amanda Lin, Nicole Chang, Sarah Ma, Olivia Cong (left to right) wear the same outfit to celebrate Twin Tuesday.
The saying “two is better than one” rings true as students gathered with friends, showing their partnership through coordinated outfits. Many matched color schemes, while others dressed as iconic movie duos. Some even wore identical outfits.
“Tuesday was really fun! I got to match with my friend, and it was cool seeing all the people matching while walking around,” said freshman Valerie Lam. “I didn’t expect so many people to participate, but it was still really fun to match.”
Wednesday: West Coast vs Wild West
Students dress in Western Cowboy attire for West Coast vs Wild West Wednesday as they craft hair clip charms out of beads. Western Wednesday offered students the chance to embrace either the Wild West or West Coast vibe, allowing for personal expression through their outfits. Some opted for classic cowboy attire—denim, plaid shirts, and cowboy hats—while others showcased a beach aesthetic with flowy sundresses, casual shorts, sandals, and beach hats. At lunchtime, students gathered in the Rally Court to create hair clips featuring both themes. With help from ASB members, they glued charms onto their clips, choosing from an array of options like seashells and tropical flowers or horseshoes and cowboy hats, allowing everyone to showcase their unique style.
Thursday: Wedding Day
(From bottom to top) Seniors Sarah Ma, Nicole Chang , Michelle Yim and Marin Lu dress in wedding attire for Tie the Knot Thursday. Students wore elegant dresses, while others wore suits with ties and bows.
“It was also really interesting to see all these people wearing formal outfits at school,” Lam said. “You wouldn’t normally associate schools with suits and dresses, which made our classes even funnier.”
Friday: Spirit Day
Every year, Homecoming Spirit Week at Arcadia High School (AHS) concludes with a day dedicated to school pride. Students showed their enthusiasm by wearing a variety of AHS apparel, including gray spirit sweatshirts, red and yellow hoodies, and sports uniforms.
During lunch, students could decorate themselves with star crowns, glitter, and face paint. Using red and yellow face paint, ASB painted on the faces of many students, and they could choose between many different designs. Some chose plain stripes, while others decided on stars or hearts. Students could also choose to get glitter added on top of their face paint, completing their look with red or gold star crowns.
“Spirit week was nice because it allowed the whole school to come together,” freshman Kaylee Chen. “It let us participate in activities with each other and helped raise school spirit at the same time.”
Overall, Homecoming Spirit Week did a great job of introducing Homecoming and raising school spirit in preparation for the dance and the football game.
