The Arcadia High School’s (AHS) Girls JV Tennis team faced off in a series of matches against Los Osos High School (LOHS) on Sept. 11. Going into the game, the Girls JV Tennis team felt confident, stating that this game against LOHS would be one of their “last hard games.”
The girls played the match at their home court, creating a familiar environment. The game ultimately resulted in a 13-5 victory for Arcadia, marking the end of their challenging games for the month.
Although the temperatures heading into the game were quite high, the Girls JV Team consistently won their sets and built up strong momentum heading into the end of their game.
“Today’s game was very fun, and I’m very grateful for my partner [Junior, Flora Tan],” said junior Minh Tam. “She’s a really great partner, and I think our cooperation is the key thing that helped us win.”
While they have finished playing their most challenging opponent, it is crucial for the Girls JV Team to continue training and brushing up on their weaknesses. Their coach expressed having a lot of confidence in them, complimenting their playing.
As for Tan, the most important thing during the game was, “locking in after the first two points. At first, we were kind of bumbling, but then we got it together, and we started communicating really well and played together really well.”
While the team did lose points initially, they were able to refocus and develop a strategy and mindset that allowed them to score points, which ultimately led them to win the match.
While reflecting on their strategy to win the game, “Communication with my partner [helped us win]”, Tan said. “We just talked about which side we should be on, being at the right place at the right time, and everything worked out really well [because of] that.”
As double partners, Tan controlled their player positions. Her strategies involved being in specific places at times in order to have an advantage when returning the ball. By capitalizing off of having the stronger position on the court, the pair was able to make fewer mistakes and win the match.
Overall, the Girls JV Tennis team was able to win against LOHS. This match was an illustration of their hard work so far in the season. The girls will have their next game on Sept. 24 against Glendale. Good luck, Apaches!
